At 7:35 PM, Ringwood Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of 3rd Street. Initial reports advised of smoke showing with flames visible on the Delta side of the structure. Ringwood Fire, Meno Fire Department, and Fairview Fire Department were initially dispatched.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the Delta side of the residence. Due to the fire extending into the attic and spreading to an adjacent business, along with challenging weather conditions, a second alarm was requested for additional manpower from Ames Fire Department and Cleo Fire Department. Fairview Ladder 1 was also requested to assist with operations due to adjacent buildings and their construction.
Ringwood Rescue 6 deployed two 1¾-inch crosslays and achieved a solid knockdown of the main body of fire within five minutes of arrival. As additional resources arrived, crews made coordinated interior attacks on both buildings. Through a tremendous team effort, firefighters were able to stop the fire’s progression, save the contents of the adjacent business, and preserve a significant portion of the residents contents.

A special congratulations goes out to three of our newly certified rookie firefighters, who successfully made their first interior fire attack. According to long-standing firehouse tradition, they’ve officially earned the right to start growing their mustaches. We couldn’t be more proud of these firefighters and the dedication they’ve shown in reaching this milestone.
Excellent work by everyone involved. Incidents like this demonstrate the professionalism, training, and teamwork that protect our community every day.
