The Rio Dell Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the individual shown in this video in connection with the theft of yard ornaments from a residence in the 300 block of 1st Avenue.

🚒 Wildwood Days continues! 🚒

Didn't get the chance to dunk Chief Phinney last night? Here's another opportunity to support a great cause!

💦 Tonight at 6:30 PM, Rio Dell Police Department's Corporal Landry will be taking a turn in the dunk tank at the Rio Dell Fire Department. In addition, multiple members of the Rio Dell Fire Department will be up for a dunk too!

Come out and support our incredible Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department.

Be sure to stop by, say hello, and if you're feeling lucky, take your best shot at the dunk tank!

🚒🎡 Wildwood Days is Here! 🎡🚒

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, look no further! Wildwood Days is underway today through Sunday, and it's one of the best opportunities all year to get out, have some fun, and support the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department.

Whether you're coming for the food, the events, the parade, the games, or just to spend time with friends and neighbors, there's something for everyone. Our volunteer firefighters put in an incredible amount of work—not just responding when emergencies happen, but also organizing events like this that bring our community together.

Now, I may have made a questionable decision...

💦 Tomorrow (Friday) from 6:00-6:30pm, I'll be in the Dunk Tank at Shotz Coffee! 💦

For thirty minutes, you'll have the opportunity to see if your fastball is as good as you think it is. If you've ever wanted to dunk your Chief, now's your chance—and I can't think of a better reason than supporting our Volunteer Fire Department.

Bring the family, enjoy everything Wildwood Days has to offer, and stop by to say hello...or take your best shot. I have a feeling some of you have been waiting for this opportunity. 😄

🐾 Help Us Build a Better Future for Rio Dell's Animals! 🐾

The City of Rio Dell is taking an important step toward ensuring our community continues to receive reliable, compassionate animal care by constructing a new Police Department Animal Kennel Facility.

With local animal care resources becoming increasingly strained, this project will allow us to safely and humanely care for lost, stray, abandoned, and seized animals while they await reunification with their owners or placement through rescue or adoption. Most importantly, it will help ensure these essential services remain available to the Rio Dell community for years to come while keeping costs affordable for our taxpayers.

The City has committed to funding approximately 70% of the project, totaling $125,000 and we're asking our amazing community to help us raise the remaining 30%. Whether you're a resident, local business, service club, or community organization, every donation—large or small—brings us one step closer to making this project a reality.

Donations can be made at Rio Dell City Hall by cash, check, or credit/debit card.

Call (707) 764-3532 and simply let City Hall staff know your payment is for the Animal Kennel Project.

🚔 Measure Z in Action – Keeping Rio Dell Clean, Safe, and Moving Forward! 🚔

Every quarter, we'd like to share how your Measure Z dollars are making a difference right here in Rio Dell. Our Community Service Officer continues to tackle quality-of-life issues that have a direct impact on our neighborhoods—from nuisance properties and abandoned vehicles to animal control and code enforcement.

📅 April 1 – June 30, 2026 Highlights

📞 228 Calls for Service

🏡 Code Enforcement & Property Abatement
• 76 new residential abatement cases opened
• 51 active cases currently being addressed
• Inspection warrant served on a chronic nuisance property on the 20 block of Center Street, resulting in steady progress toward compliance
• 87 excessive vegetation notices sent to property owners
• Cost recovery initiated on 4 completed abatements, helping reduce costs to taxpayers

🚗 Vehicle Abatement
• 29 vehicle abatement investigations
• 8 abandoned or nuisance vehicles removed from our community

🐾 Animal Control
• 82 animal-related incidents handled
• 3 nuisance dogs impounded and processed through the hearing process
• 10 loose dogs safely reunited with their owners
• 2 community cats neutered and released
• 2 dogs found loving new homes through adoption

These numbers represent more than just statistics—they represent safer neighborhoods, cleaner streets, improved property conditions, responsible animal care, and a better quality of life for everyone who calls Rio Dell home.

We remain committed to using Measure Z funding responsibly and transparently while continuing to provide the high level of service our community deserves.

Join the Rio Dell Police Department and the Rio Dell Fire Department as they face off in what we hope becomes an annual tradition of friendly competition, community pride, and hometown fun!

This exciting matchup will also showcase Scotia's beautifully renovated baseball field, making it the perfect evening to come out, support your local first responders, and enjoy a great summer night with family, friends, and neighbors.

Bring your lawn chairs, wear your team colors, and help us kick off what we hope becomes a long-standing community tradition.

🐾 Rio Dell Community Members 🐾

🚨 Our community may soon see more dogs and cats in need of homes as local animal resources become increasingly limited. While this is difficult news for many of us, it's also an opportunity to come together and make a positive impact.

💙 Every member of our community can help by:

🐾 Being a responsible pet owner. Keep your dogs safely contained by maintaining secure fences and enclosures, and never allow your pets to roam freely. Loose animals are at greater risk of injury, becoming lost, or creating safety concerns for the community.

🏷️ Licensing your dog with the City of Rio Dell. A current dog license helps us quickly identify and reunite lost pets with their families, reducing the number of animals that end up in shelters.

🩺 Spaying and neutering your pets to help prevent unwanted litters and reduce pet overpopulation.

🏡 Opening your home as a foster. Temporary foster homes provide a safe place for animals while creating much-needed space for others in need.

🎁 Donating pet food, supplies, or monetary contributions to local shelters and rescue organizations that are already caring for animals at or beyond capacity.

🚑❤️ The Rio Dell Police Department and the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department are proud to partner together to bring the File of Life program to our community — completely FREE of charge!

The File of Life is a simple but incredibly important tool designed to help EMS and first responders provide faster, more effective medical care during emergencies. The form contains critical medical information such as:
• Medications
• Allergies
• Medical conditions
• Emergency contacts
• Physician information
• Insurance information
• DNR/medical directive information

Participants complete the form and place it in a visible location on their refrigerator, with the red File of Life magnet on the outside of the fridge to alert responding personnel that important medical information is inside.

⏱️ During a medical emergency, every second matters. Having this information immediately available reduces the time EMS personnel spend asking questions and searching for medical history — allowing them to begin appropriate treatment faster and provide better care when it matters most.

This program is especially beneficial for:
✔️ Seniors
✔️ Individuals with medical conditions
✔️ Residents taking multiple medications
✔️ Anyone who wants to be prepared in an emergency

Thank you to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office for the invitation to be part of Public Safety Sunday yesterday at McKinleyville High School 👮‍♂️🚓

What a great turnout! It was awesome getting the chance to interact with so many families, meet new faces, and connect with the community in such a positive setting 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨

We always appreciate opportunities like this and the strong partnerships that make them possible 🤝

🚲 FOUND CHILDREN’S BICYCLES 🚲

The Rio Dell Police Department has received two small children’s bicycles that were recently found within the City.

If you believe one of these bicycles may belong to you or your child, please contact us with a detailed description or stop by the Police Department to identify the property so it can be returned to it's rightful owner.
