Rio Dell Fire Protection District:
⚠️ URGENT SAFETY NOTICE: Increase in Animal-Related Emergencies at Scotia Fireman’s Park ⚠️
The Rio Dell Fire Protection District is issuing an important safety reminder to all residents and visitors regarding a recent rise in animal-related emergencies at the dam located along the river bar at Scotia Fireman’s Park.
🐾 What’s Happening?Over the past week, first responders have seen an increase in incidents involving pets—especially dogs—being swept away or stranded due to dangerously swift-moving water near the dam area. These situations not only put animals at risk but also endanger owners and bystanders who attempt rescues.
🌊 Why It’s Dangerous. The water flow near the dam can appear calm at first glance, but strong undercurrents and sudden drops create hazardous conditions. Even strong swimmers—both human and animal—can quickly become overwhelmed.
👨👩👧 Who Should Be Concerned? This warning is for everyone, including:
🐕 Pet Owners – Keep dogs leashed and away from fast-moving water.
👶 Children – Always supervise kids closely near the river.
🧺 Families & Visitors – Be aware of changing river conditions, especially after rainfall.
🛑 Safety Tips to Follow
Keep pets on a leash at all times near the river
Stay a safe distance from the dam and river edges
Educate children about water safety and boundaries
Observe posted warning signs and barriers
📞 In Case of Emergency: If you or someone else encounters a water-related emergency, call 911 immediately. Quick action can save lives.
