đź”» ROAD CONDITION UPDATE đź”»
DOWNGRADE FROM LEVEL 2 TO LEVEL 1

Gallia County is now under a Level 1 Snow Emergency.

Roadway conditions are improving; however, cautious travel is still necessary. Many secondary roadways remain snow- and ice-covered and may be slick.

County road crews report that back roads and gravel roads are still ice-covered. Crews are actively applying materials to improve traction, but this process is challenging due to the current frozen conditions. Materials such as gravel must be adequately spread to be effective, which is difficult in these temperatures and frozen conditions.

If you are traveling—especially on secondary roadways—please do so slowly and with extreme caution.

As always, if you need assistance, please contact our dispatch center at 740-446-1221.

Snow Emergency Update

At this time, we are transitioning back to a Level 2 Snow Emergency.

After thorough consultation with other public safety leaders, the decision to transition has been made based on current roadway conditions. Primary roadways and the majority of secondary roads are in fair condition, and road crews continue working to mitigate snow and ice and improve travel conditions.

As expected, there is no warmer weather in sight for several days. Sustained warmer temperatures will be necessary to assist with the melting of snow and ice. Until then, any necessary travel should be done with extreme caution. If travel is not essential, it is strongly advised to remain off the roads.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our road crews, who are working tirelessly in these extreme cold conditions to make our roadways as safe as possible for everyone.

Due to extreme freezing temperatures, the following Warming Centers are available in Gallia County starting 1-27-2026:

FOR ALL POLICE, FIRE, AND MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, CALL 911!

The Field of Hope Gymnasium located at 11821 State Route 160, Vinton OH
Will be open starting Tuesday January 27, through Friday January 30, 2026 from 8am- 4:30pm

Additional warming centers can be opened if we need too. Please check on your elderly neighbors, family, pets and livestock during these extreme cold temperatures.

We do realize this does not take care of housing people in the evening or night time but that becomes a bigger event requiring additional resources. This at least allows for citizens to find a place to get warmed up from after the colder night time temperatures.

01/25/2026

Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin has declared a Level 3 Snow Emergency.

Road conditions have worsened and continue to deteriorate.

All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel.

All essential employees should contact their employer to determine if they should report to work.

THOSE TRAVELING ON ROADWAYS MAY BE SUBJECT TO ARREST.

If you require assistance, please contact the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office at 740-446-1221.

Additionally, the Vehicle can be utilized by First Responders in natural disaster situations. We are pleased to report that this valuable asset has been added to our area without any financial burden on our community. In a world of uncertainty, we are delighted to take another step towards ensuring everyone's safety. We would also like to extend our appreciation to High Road Towing for their assistance in transporting the vehicle.
