🚨🚨Public Statement Regarding Proposed Data Center Development🚨🚨

To the Citizens of Rio Hondo,

The City of Rio Hondo has heard and understands the concerns expressed by residents regarding the proposed development of a data center outside the city limits.

We want to respectfully clarify that no representative of the City of Rio Hondo has been contacted by, nor has communicated with, the developers of any data center regarding permits, resources, utilities, or development agreements. The City has not conducted any business with these developers, and the proposed project is outside the City's jurisdiction and control.

At this time, there are no agreements, discussions, or commitments involving the use of City services, infrastructure, or utilities related to any data center development.

We recognize the importance of transparency and public input. Should any opportunity for a future business relationship with a data center be presented to the City, it will be openly discussed with the public before any decision is made to accept or decline such a proposal.

For the time being, there is no current or prospective business relationship between the City of Rio Hondo and any data center developer.

We appreciate our residents' continued engagement and concern for the future of our community.

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority will host a public meeting about the Outer Parkway project Thursday August 27th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rio Hondo Civic Center. Members of the public are invited to learn about construction plans for the new highway and give feedback.

At approximately 5:26pm, the Rio Hondo Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of F.M. 106 and Garza Rd. in reference to a two vehicle collision.

Ultimately, 2 adults and 3 children were transported by E.M.S.

No life-threatening injuries were reported at the time.

Rio Hondo is grateful for all the first responders who continue to serve the community.

The City of Rio Hondo announces the resignation of City Administrator Ben Medina Jr., effective August 11, 2026.

Mr. Medina has served the City of Rio Hondo for many years in the role of City Administrator. The City thanks him for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavors.

To ensure continuity of city operations, Chief of Police Julian Longoria has been appointed by the City Commission as Interim City Administrator, effective August 11, 2026. Chief Longoria will serve in this capacity while the City evaluates next steps regarding the position of City Administrator.

The city remains committed to providing quality municipal services to residents and maintaining the continuity of daily operations throughout this transition.
