Public Safety Alert: “Senior Assassin” Game Concerns

The Rio Rancho Police Department has seen an increase in activity related to a game called “Senior Assassin,” where high school students move through neighborhoods on foot late at night attempting to “eliminate” each other using realistic looking guns that shoot water or Orbeez pellets.

While this may seem like harmless fun, it creates a serious safety risk for everyone involved:

Many toy guns closely resemble real fi****ms. This can lead to a dangerous misunderstanding by homeowners, neighbors, or responding officers.

Running through yards, hiding, pulling on door handles, or approaching homes and vehicles at night can be mistaken for criminal activity, prompting calls to police or hostile actions by citizens.

Homeowners may feel threatened and respond defensively. Officers responding to reports of armed individuals will arrive armed and plan for a worst-case scenario.

Participants could face criminal charges such as trespassing, criminal damage to property, assault, or worse depending on the circumstances.

Parents, talk with your teens about the risks and consequences.

Let’s keep our community safe.
