Today, Tuesday, 30 NOV 2021, is #GivingTuesday and we would like to ask that, if you are able to, you donate to the Marine Corps League, LCpl. Christopher Adlesperger, Detachment 1316, at the link below, to support our efforts to support our local Veteran and Youth community. We have an extremely low over head as we don't not have members who receive compensation for for duties (all volunteer force), and we have very little recurring bills (some examples are IRS mandatory annual nonprofit registration fees, maintaining our P.O. Box, ordering of checks, and stamps). This leaves the rest of all donated funds for us to use to continue our goal of supporting our local and state Military, Veteran and Youth Programs. Help us put your donations to good use by donating at the PayPal link below. Thank you.

8 Nov 2004 - The Second Battle of Fallujah

On 8 November 2004, the largest military operation since the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom got underway just after sunset as thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops pushed into the insurgent-held city of Fallujah. The city had been in rebel control since April after the Marine Corps was instructed to halt all offensives. Operation Phantom Fury began the evening after the Iraqi interim president declared martial law on the city and surrounding area.

Although a success, it was one of the bloodiest battles of the Iraq War and the most intense urban fighting experienced by the Corps since Hue City in Vietnam in 1968.

Did you know: During WWII, over 200 English words were substituted with the Navajo equivalent, but the Navajo language did not have words to described modern instruments of war. Because of this, tanks were called turtles, airplanes were called birds, bombers were called buzzards, grenades were called potatoes and battleships were called whales. To this day, Marines use some of the phrases that were passed down by the Navajo Code Talkers, such as a pen is called an ink stick, and running shoes are called go fasters.
