Did you know that every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals in the USA??? When bystanders step in with CPR before EMS arrives... Survival rates can DOUBLE or even TRIPLE. 🫢

It's so we're gonna take today to talk about this adjacent topic! 💓 You need your heart going to keep oxygen moving through your body, supply that magic gas to all your vital organs and your brain. Without intervention, brain damage can occur in as little as 4 minutes! CPR can prevent that damage from happening and... the best part? Hands-only CPR (the recommended method now) is way easier than you may think!

And honestly... if you're the kind of person who keeps a fire extinguisher ready "just in case," which, if you're reading this, you probably are, then you're already thinking like a first responder! CPR training is the same mindset: being prepared for the moment you hope never comes.

So, here's a nudge from your DRB Crew: Get trained to do CPR! Check with your local health department, Red Cross, or EMS service about CPR classes or refresher courses near you. A lot of them are FREE or low-cost, and most are just a few hours long. *We often share when these events are upcoming, check our stories often for these updates.*

So... basically... learn CPR, get recertified if it's been a while- you might just save someone's life someday! ❤

PS. The fire extinguisher PASS method does NOT work for CPR... just in case you were wondering...

Hey DRB Fam! 👋 Summer's here-ish, at least it's been feeling that way this past week. 🥵 So before we get too far into the season, we've got 5 EASY moves for you to make:

🔥 Check your grill — Gas lines crack. Grease builds up. Propane tanks expire (yes, really). A quick once-over NOW beats a flare-up later. And for the love of all things holy, keep it AWAY from your house, deck railings, and landscaping!

🔥 Mow smart, not sorry — Dry grass + hot mower deck = bad news. Let your equipment cool before refueling or storing it in the garage. And if you're using power tools? Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. (We sell 'em just FYI.)

🔥 Check your extinguisher — When's the last time you looked at that thing in your garage? Is the pin intact? Gauge in the green? Not covered in cobwebs and regret? If you're not sure it works, it probably doesn't. Bring it by for a quick once over and, if it's toast, we'll recycle it responsibly.

🔥 Don't leave stuff running — Fans, chargers, space heaters (yes, some of you are STILL using them in June... we see you). If you're leaving the house, unplug it. Electrical fires don't take summer vacation.

🔥 Think before you fire up — fireworks, campfires, and bonfires are like SO MUCH FUN but they also cause like all the injuries. So make sure you're in the right physical space and right headspace before you light 'em up!

Look, we know you've got a million things on your summer to-do list. But taking five minutes to check this stuff? That's the difference between a close call and a catastrophe. And we'd really, REALLY prefer one of those outcomes to the other!

Stay safe out there, DRB Fam. ❤️‍🔥 We're here if you need us.

As you know, your DRB Crew prioritizes each customer when we are with them- which, to us, means giving them our undivided attention which means not answering the phone when we're with customers! So, in a nutshell, we are often unable to answer our calls ASAP. Which means...
📨 You can email us instead- which is preferred 100% of the time!
💬 You can leave us a message and we'll get back to you when we are able!
⌨ You can text either number with your info if you are dropping off extinguishers!

It does NOT mean...
☎️ You should call us repeatedly... you will literally never get an answer doing that.
📨 You should leave a voicemail or email us telling us to call you... just tell us what you need!
🏠 You should just show up at our shop (which is also our home btw)... 9/10 times we aren't even there!

Make sure that you are acting as our customer the way you would want your own customers to act. We are people who deserve space and time to run our business, help other customers, and 😮 even have personal time once in a while. Please be respectful of that. Huge shout out to all of you who get this and respect boundaries... we would loose our minds without y'all!❤️‍🔥

It's a BIG month for all things safety related. You already know about but there's also... and and it's also and month! 🤯 Oh, then there's also and and, of course, Jon's B-Day was last weekend.

So, instead of inundating you with a "guess what its such and such day" every day this month we thought we'd give them all a little shoutout at once! So, here goes!

We hope that you all remember to thank a dispatcher and a volunteer and remember our fallen firefighters and pay attention while driving and call 811 before digging and do the eco-friendly thing when you can and tell your mom you love her and wish Jon a happy birthday!!!

Got it? Great! 🤣

But really y'all, no matter what the day or month, it's about treating yourself and the people and places around you with respect and kindness. ❤️‍🔥 You shouldn't need an awareness month or a holiday to remind you to be a good person.

Recently, we conducted a few of our famous fire extinguishers trainings with local factory workers. 👷 Everyone got a chance to put out a real fire with a real fire extinguisher but, while important, that wasn't the highlight of what we had for in store for them.

If you've ever been through a training with the DRB Crew then you know, we don't just talk about PASS or drone on about different types of extinguishers. Of course, we do have to cover those things, but we also always bring something fresh to the table. For this particular training, we weren't able to do that. 😭 We, unfortunately, had to repeat the same topic...

As we told the participants, we talked about this a lot last year and we're gonna talk about it a lot again this year- BUT we know more about it!!! And, if you hadn't already guessed, that topic is . So, just in case you aren't able to participate in a DRB fire safety training this year, we wanted to recap some of that new info for you:
🔋 Fires involving LI batteries are not fires you can use an extinguisher on! Do not expect to be able to fight these fires at all. Evacuate, get yourself and those around you to safety.
🔋 Know the warning signs that a battery may be failing: hissing or popping sounds, extremely hot to the touch, weird smells, and wisps of "smoke" are BAD.
🔋LI batteries are extremely fragile and temperamental; even slight damage can cause them to lash out! They don't like to be overcharged or undercharged; they don't like to be overheated or too cold. Rust, dents, dings, bulging = BAD.
🔋 Fires involving LI batteries are most likely to occur while charging or during the recycling process. Charging fires are often due to improper devices being used, damaged cords, or overcharging/undercharging an already damaged unit. Recycling fires occur because folks did not in fact recycle- they threw them in the trash can- BAD.

These are just a few details that have come to light over the past year in regard to lithium ion batteries and the fires they cause. As these batteries continue to become more prevalent in our lives, the fires associated with them will too!

BTW- those "LI Rated" extinguishers you might have seen online are 💩

Can you guess what this weekend was? That smirk oughta give it away... It was our most fabulous and totally awesome Boss Man Jon's B-Day!!! 🥳

He's our Mr. Fix It, our rock, our hero. We couldn't wish for a better husband, father, and friend than Jon. Needless to say, we wouldn't trade him in for a newer model!

Thanks for giving us another great year of your 🦖 life! Happy Birthday Boss Man!

And, YES, that is a fire extinguisher b-day card lest you doubt your DRB Crew's ability to find anything and everything 🧯related.

Keep your Momma safe for ... and, preferably, all the other days too!

Here's a few things you can do this Mother's Day Weekend to help your Ma stay :
-Test her smoke alarms and CO detectors
-Clean up brush and debris from around the outside of her home
-Recycle old batteries, chemicals, and cardboard for her
-Make sure all exits are accessible (this includes making sure windows actually open)
-Teach her PASS
-Check up on her extinguisher

And, if your Mom doesn't already have one...🧯 buy her one from your trusted DRB Crew. Obviously, everything on this list is Mom Approved which basically means that it's Mom Required- so get to work kiddos!

To all the Mothers out there, we hope you have a wonderfully safe weekend! ❤️‍🔥 Thanks for, ya know, birthing us and raising us and just generally putting up with us. We really do appreciate you, and we definitely should tell you that more often!

Was your local fire station glowing red this past weekend?

From April 26th through May 3rd, many fire departments participate in to honor fallen firefighters. This annual event is just one way, over National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, that we remember the heroic service of the men and women no longer with us. ❤️‍🔥 Their courage, dedication, and commitment to our communities deserves remembrance by us all.

Whether you noticed the red lights around your community over the weekend or not, whether you knew what they represented or not- you can take a moment, now, to remember our fallen heroes.

We encourage you all to follow the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the organization behind the Light the Night campaign. If you would like to learn more about this event or to get involved next year, please visit: https://weekend.firehero.org/events/memorial-weekend/light-night-fallen-firefighters/
