Rising City Fire Department

Rising City Fire Department The fire department is a full service department for our community with both EMS & Fire service In Suprise we have a Tanker and a quick response Grass Rig.

On November 23, 1904, the Rising City Fire Company adopted a constitution and by-laws. A new fire house was completed in June of 1917 and the firemen had a new place to store their ladders and equipment. A terrible fire that destroyed the Opera House and 5 business places in December of 1923 resulted in the purchase of a new fire truck in 1929. The Firemen organized a Rescue Squad in 1952 and purc

hased a resuscitator. In 1963 a Rescue Unit was purchased with donations from the community. In 1968 a second Rescue Unit (a Cadillac ambulance) was purchased and the old ambulance was turned into a crash unit. A new Fire Hall was built in 1957 on Main Street in Rising City with 4 bay doors. 3 face to the west and 1 faces to the south. Rising City is also joined with Surprise, Nebraska which is 6 miles to the south. The Surprise Grass Rig has Oxygen, Blood Pressure equipment, and bandages for quick responses to medical emergencies until the Rising City Ambulance can get down there. On July 4, 2007 with the help of Governor Dave Heineman we dedicated a new fire station located just off of Hwy 92. This station features a meeting room, storm shelter, storage and five truck bay doors. Rising City is included in the Butler County Mutual Aid and the Big 8 Mutual Aid organizations.

A shout out and thank you to the EMT’s & EMR’s on our department. This week is National EMS Week.

Today is National EMS Day.

A reminder that some people run toward the emergencies everyone else is running from.

They show up on the worst days of people’s lives.
The car accidents.
The overdoses.
The heart attacks.
The terrifying moments when someone’s world changes in seconds.

And somehow…
they stay calm through all of it.

EMS workers miss holidays.
Skip meals.
Work exhausting hours.
Carry trauma most people will never see.
And still continue showing up to save strangers every single day.

So today, thank the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and first responders who answer calls most of us pray we never have to make.

Because behind every siren is someone trying to save a life.
