It’s time for the city golf cart renewals!! On April 11 we will be doing golf cart inspections at the Sheriff’s Office from 11-3. Please feel free to stop by during that time!

You will need to bring your proof of insurance, your ID and also $25. We will accept cash or a check. If you are writing a check it will need to be made out to City of Rising Sun. We will be in the sally port/garage area at the back of the Sheriff’s Office.

We also do golf cart inspections Monday-Friday from 8-4. Please come to the Sheriff’s entrance during those times. Thanks!

CHARGES FILED IN MAJOR MAIL THEFT AND FORGERY CASE IN OHIO COUNTY

On January 22,2026 charges were filed against Cheyenne Seina Bradley and Evan James Joel Hensley following an investigation into widespread mail theft and financial fraud affecting residents throughout Ohio and Switzerland Counties. The investigation revealed that a copious pieces of undelivered mail were taken from postal routes and brought into a private residence, where checks, credit cards, and other financial documents were opened and used for personal gain. The Ohio County Sheriff's Office recovered large quantities of stolen mail and financial instruments belonging to numerous victims.

Cheyenne Seina Bradley, a postal employee at the time, is alleged to have knowingly removed undelivered mail from her assigned routes, while Evan James Joel Hensley is accused of opening that mail and committing acts of theft and forgery.
lnvestigators confirmed that victims experienced missing or delayed mail, including checks and other critical financial documents. "This case involves a profound breach of public trust," stated Prosecutor Lynn Deddens. "People depend on the mail for their financial security and peace of mind.
When that trust is violated, it impacts an entire community."

Numerous charges were filed against the Defendants including Theft, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery, Corrupt Business lnfluence and Official Misconduct.

Both Defendants received their lnitial Hearings. Their next hearing date is a pre-trial set for February 20th,2026.

It is important to remember that criminal charges are merely allegations
And individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.

For Public Release:

November 24th, 2025 around 6:30pm, emergency services responded to a two vehicle crash located 5184 Milton Bear Branch Rd, in Ohio County Indiana.

The collision involved a passenger car driven by Vernon Smith of Cincinnati Ohio, and the other vehicle was a combine used for harvesting, operated by Tim Colen of Switzerland County.

The investigation revealed that the passenger car collided into the front tire of the combine as both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions.

Mr. Smith was transported to UC Hospital at Cincinnati where he passed away from his injuries. Mr. Colen operating the combine was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Emergency Services included was The Bear Branch and Rising Sun Fire Departments, Rising Sun EMS, and Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.

Family members have been notified.
