🚨 Community Alert – Vehicle Prowling 🚨

We have seen discussions on other community forums regarding vehicle prowling incidents that may have occurred last night in the area. At this time, we believe there may be additional incidents that have not yet been reported.

If you discovered items missing from your vehicle or noticed that someone may have gone through it overnight, please report it to the Ritzville Police Department. Even if nothing was taken, reporting suspicious activity helps us identify patterns, locations, and potential suspects.

🔎 If you have security cameras and captured suspicious activity, please let us know. Video can be extremely helpful in investigations.

Tips to Help Prevent Vehicle Prowling:

• Always lock your vehicle, even if it’s parked at home
• Remove valuables such as wallets, purses, electronics, and fi****ms
• Do not leave spare keys or garage door openers in your vehicle
• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible
• Report suspicious activity immediately

📷 Camera Registry Reminder
Our department recently launched a Camera Registry Program to help us quickly locate security cameras that may have captured evidence when crimes occur. If you have a security camera facing public areas such as streets or alleys, we encourage you to register it. Participation is voluntary and helps officers solve crimes more quickly.

📢 Introducing Our New Security Camera Registry Program! 📷

The Ritzville Police Department is proud to announce the launch of our new Community Camera Registry Program — another step forward in our coordinated effort to modernize our agency and embrace innovative tools that enhance public safety.

As part of our ongoing commitment to proactive policing and leveraging technology responsibly, this program allows residents and businesses to voluntarily register the location of their security cameras with us. By building stronger partnerships and improving our response capabilities, we can work smarter and more efficiently when incidents occur.

In the event of a crime or critical incident, knowing where cameras are located can help us quickly identify potential video evidence — saving valuable time and increasing the likelihood of successful investigations.

🔹 This is NOT live access to your cameras.
🔹 We cannot view your system remotely.
🔹 Registration simply lets us know a camera may be in the area.

If an incident occurs nearby, an officer may contact you to ask if you are willing to review or share footage.

This program reflects our commitment to innovation, transparency, and collaboration with the community we proudly serve. Together, we can continue building a safer Ritzville.

Today, members of our agency traveled to Ephrata to participate in a hands-on training focused on control tactics and use-of-force decision-making. These are critical skills that we continuously work to refine so we can provide the safest possible outcomes for everyone involved—officers and community members alike.

The training incorporated the use of training Taser probes and Simuntion guns. Simuntion guns are a real firearm that's been converted to be safely used as a training tool, while maintaining all the same characteristics as a real handgun. They are usually used to fire a non-lethal marking projectiles. This allows officers to practice decision-making and tactics in a controlled but high-stress environment. Using these tools helps make this training as realistic as possible and better prepares officers for real-world encounters.

We would like to sincerely thank the Ephrata Police Department for hosting and allowing us to participate in this valuable training day. Opportunities like this strengthen interagency partnerships and help us all better serve our communities.
