Labor Day 2026 is Monday, September 7. The holiday pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is observed each year on the first Monday of September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and is celebrated with parties, cookouts, parades and athletic events.

Attention Residents: The 2026 Permeable Paver Maintenance Project will begin Tuesday September 8, and the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. The project includes cleaning of brick pavers in alleys, removing existing joint filler, vegetation and debris and placing new joint filler material between the brick pavers. This work keeps the infiltration into the brick pavers and green infrastructure area clean and obstruction free so that water may infiltrate the area and prevent ponding and flooding in the alleys. Attention Residents: The Village of River Grove's 2026 Energy Efficient Street Light Replacement Project is set to begin Tuesday, September 8. The Village revived a grant from Com-Ed to pay for a portion of this project. Midgard Enterprises is the contractor performing the work. They will be replacing the old high pressure sodium and mercury v***r street lights with new LED street lights fixtures. This work will improve the efficiency to the lighting system and reduce the amount of energy used by the existing lights. The below location map indicates the what streets the contractor will be replacing lighting fixtures along. The project is anticipated to be completed by end of September.
