Probationary Member Gayle Drumm

Riverdale is proud to recognize Probationary Member Gayle Drumm as our July Member of the Month!

A resident of Edgewater, Maryland, Gayle officially joined Riverdale in February after completing Firefighter I and has since continued her training with Hazardous Materials Operations.

While navigating the County application process, Gayle has never allowed being “new” to keep her on the sidelines. Whether it is a drill, community outreach event, station activity, or something completely outside her comfort zone, she is willing to jump in, learn, and be part of the team.

What stands out most is the way Gayle makes others feel included in the experience, even while she is still learning and finding her own place here. She has also handled challenging situations with a level of maturity and professionalism that has made leadership incredibly proud.

Gayle, congratulations on being named Riverdale’s July 2026 Member of the Month. We are excited to see you nearing the end of the County process and cannot wait to see you riding Riverdale’s apparatus and serving the residents and visitors of Prince George’s County.

Keep learning. Keep showing up. Keep pushing outside that comfort zone. You are just getting started. 🖤💛

🔥 Delayed Post: June 2026 Member of the Month 🔥
Deputy Chief David “Dave” Sutton

At our June Business Meeting, Deputy Chief Dave Sutton was recognized as Riverdale’s June Member of the Month.

A longtime Riverdale member and live-in, Dave has invested countless hours into this department. Recently, that commitment has been especially evident in the time he gives our probationary members, helping them navigate their early days at Riverdale and making sure they have the support they need to succeed.

Dave has also shown that leadership means being willing to grow. He has worked on his communication, become more open to change, and committed significant time to strengthening Riverdale’s future, including helping review and rebuild our Probationary Member Manual and Bylaws.

Unfortunately, this recognition comes with a bittersweet note. On July 1, Dave unexpectedly lost his mother, Linda Sutton.

Although Linda moved from Riverdale to South Carolina a handful of years ago, she never stopped being one of Riverdale’s biggest supporters. She was our virtual cheerleader, and we know she would have absolutely loved seeing this post. There is no doubt she would have been in the comments making sure everyone knew how proud she was. 💛

Dave, congratulations on being named Riverdale’s June 2026 Member of the Month. Thank you for your commitment, your growth, and the time you continue to invest in the people and future of Riverdale.

🎉 Riverdale Park PorchFest is officially here! 🎶

As visitors and residents make their way around town today enjoying live music, local artists, and everything that makes Riverdale Park special, we ask everyone to please take a little extra care on our streets.

Please reduce your speed, stay alert for pedestrians crossing between venues, and be mindful of increased foot traffic throughout the community. Many attendees will be walking, biking, and traveling between performance locations throughout the day.

As graduation season continues, we would like to recognize one of our own!

Congratulations to Nathan Henriquez, a resident of Hyattsville and a proud member of the Northwestern High School Class of 2026.

Recently, members of the Riverdale Fire Department leadership team had the honor of presenting Nathan with a custom Riverdale Fire Department stole featuring our department patch for him to wear during graduation. It was a small token of appreciation for his commitment to both his education and his community.

Nathan has already demonstrated a strong dedication to public service. Shortly after graduating, he began an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course in Emmitsburg, Maryland, taking the next step in his journey toward serving others.

Nathan represents the future of the fire and EMS service. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to watching him continue to grow both personally and professionally.

Congratulations, Nathan. Your Riverdale family is cheering you on every step of the way!

The Riverdale crew is out in the community participating in Maryland State Fire Marshal's Community Risk Reduction Weekend!

Stop by our tent in the 5600 block of 54th Avenue (parking lot across from The Swift Apartments)!

We will entertain you with our dancing 💃 and karaoke 🎤 skills as you get information on how to not become the emergency!
