On February 26, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Officer Porter and Lieutenant Ortega responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they located Mr. Blount lying face down and unresponsive.

The officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid while coordinating for EMS to respond to the scene.

One year later, Mr. Blount visited Riverdale Police Headquarters to share his remarkable recovery and personally thank the officers who assisted him during that critical incident.

We are grateful to see Mr. Blount doing so well and are proud of the professionalism, compassion, and dedication demonstrated by our officers. We wish him continued health and success in his recovery journey.

Their consistent sacrifice and dedication help ensure the safety, security, and well-being of those that choose to live, work, and play within The City of Riverdale.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all members of the Riverdale Police Department for their tireless efforts, their resilience in the face of challenges, and their steadfast commitment to public service.

On March 19, 2025, Officer Lewis of the Riverdale Police Department responded to a call regarding a person down. Upon arrival, he located a female who had collapsed and was suffering from cardiac arrest.

Without hesitation, Officer Lewis immediately began performing CPR. Through his quick thinking, training, and decisive action, he was able to successfully re-establish a pulse—ultimately saving the woman’s life.

We are incredibly proud of Officer Lewis for stepping up in a critical moment and making a life-saving difference.

In recognition of his heroic actions, Chief Norman was honored to present Officer Lewis with a Life Saving Award.

This incident highlights the importance of ongoing training. Our department remains committed to ensuring our officers are prepared not only to enforce the law, but also to respond to emergencies with the skills needed to save lives.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Sergeant Kinsey on his well-earned promotion to Lieutenant.

For the past 10 years, he has faithfully served the City of Riverdale with unwavering dedication, integrity, and heart. Throughout his time with the agency, he has consistently gone above and beyond—not only in his duties, but in the way he leads and supports his patrol team. His commitment to excellence and his genuine care for those he works alongside have made a lasting impact on everyone around him.

Lieutenant Kinsey continues to set the standard for leadership, and we are truly grateful to have him as part of our department. His passion for service and his steady guidance inspire us all.

RPD seizes baby bottles filled with “lean” and synthetic ma*****na.

Using a baby bottle can make a dangerous drug appear harmless, increasing the likelihood of misuse or accidental consumption by children.

“Lean” (also called purple drank, sizzurp, or dirty sprite) is a recreational drug mixture, not a single medication. It typically contains prescription-strength cough syrup with codeine (an opioid) and promethazine (an antihistamine)
A soft drink (often soda) and sometimes candy for flavor.

Codeine acts as a depressant on the central nervous system, producing:
- Relaxation or euphoria
- Drowsiness
- Slowed breathing and heart rate

Promethazine enhances the sedating effects, which can make the mixture even more dangerous.

Lean is risky and potentially life-threatening:
Respiratory depression (slowed or stopped breathing)

High risk of addiction (because codeine is an opioid)

Impaired judgment and coordination
Overdose, especially if mixed with alcohol or other drugs. Using it can shutdown organs.

We had a great time at the career fair at Dubois Integrity Academy! Our officers truly enjoyed speaking with students about careers in law enforcement and answering their thoughtful questions.

It was also a lot of fun giving everyone a closer look at some of our equipment and tools we use every day to help keep our community safe. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with such bright and motivated young individuals!
