TRAILBLAZING PASTOR AND RIVERHEAD ALUMNA REV. CYNTHIA LIGGON LEADS 39TH ANNUAL RIVERHEAD CAP 'SAY NO TO DRUGS' MARCH AT PULASKI STREET SCHOOL
Pulaski Street School recently hosted the 39th annual Riverhead Community Awareness Program, Inc. (CAP) Say NO to Drugs March, with the goals of preventing substance abuse, educating the community, and promoting healthy decision-making. This year’s march was led by Reverend Cynthia Liggon, the first female senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Riverhead.
The Say NO to Drugs March began in front of Pulaski Street School and united Pulaski fifth- and sixth-grade students, Riverhead High School peer leaders, Riverhead Central School District administrators, faculty, and staff, Riverhead CAP, elected officials, community organizations, and families. Following the march, a ceremony was held on the steps of Pulaski, during which speakers delivered remarks to inspire students.
The winners of Pulaski Street School and Riverhead CAP’s art contest were also announced: sixth grader Brynn Welch and fifth grader Diana Camacho Vasquez. This year’s theme was “Healthy Choices Help Me Reach Goals.” After the ceremony, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1742 served a picnic lunch to students and guests.
