The Riverhead Free Library

The Riverhead Free Library Riverhead Free Library is a library on Long Island's East End that was established in 1896. We proudly serve a diverse community.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Riverhead Free Library is to provide the diverse community it serves with access to ideas, information, and a variety of educational, cultural, recreational, and intellectual resources. The Library will do so in an inviting, accessible, and eco-conscious manner. Library History:
Begun in the 1870s as a subscription library, the Riverhead Free Library was chart

ered in 1896 by New York State. The Library existed for many years in the Savings Bank Building, various storefronts and the Roanoke Avenue School, until the land at 330 Court Street was donated by the Perkins family. The Library moved into its new home in 1964, going through two expansions to make it into the building we know today. The Library is chartered to serve the 39,000+ residents of the Riverhead Central School District, comprised of Riverhead, Aquebogue, Jamesport, South Jamesport, Northville, Baiting Hollow, Calverton, Flanders and parts of Wading River and Hampton Bays. In addition, the Library contracts with residents of East Quogue, Eastport/South Manor, Remsenburg/Speonk and East Moriches. The Library is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
