For everyone who has one of our yard signs: the wire stands can be reused, so please don't throw them out. If you have no use for it, please drop off on the front porch of 340 Olmsted Rd when you have time and they'll be put to good use! Also, the signs themselves are more than likely recyclable, so please put in the appropriate bin if you don't plan to keep yours.
Riverside Public Library is in for a major lower-level makeover later this year after voters overwhelmingly chose to approve a $1.5 million bond issue to fund the long-planned work.

When I think back to growing up in Riverside, so much of my childhood revolves around the library! Riding my bike there with my friends after a day at the pool. 🚲 Sitting there for hours finishing my school book reports. 📚 Studying for my High School final exams. 📖 And oh how I LOVED when it was time to get that fresh new library card...I felt so official! 😉

On the March 17, 2020 ballot, the Riverside Public Library will ask residents to vote on a $1.5 million bond issue to be used for a renovation of the lower library level. The question will read:
"Shall the Village of Riverside, Cook County, Illinois, renovate the interior of the lower level of the Riverside Public Library building and furnish necessary equipment in connection therewith and issue its bonds to the amount of $1,500,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?"
Why is the Library requesting this?
The lower level of the Library is Riverside's unofficial youth center. More than 1,500 students and young children spend time in the Library each month, leading to overcrowding and insufficient spaces for children of all ages to learn and grow. New age-appropriate youth rooms/areas will be built as part of the renovation, complete with improved technology, furniture, shelving and more. The renovation also calls for expanding the community room and making critical updates to existing infrastructure including lighting and electrical systems. These changes will impact not only Library patrons, but all residents who value the role the Library plays as a community hub.
What our community gains if the referendum passes:
Reorganization of space to support modern library needs
Creation of age-specific spaces
Renovation of meeting space to improve community access and technology
Reduce noise throughout library
Modernization of lower level infrastructure
What happens if the referendum does not pass:
Cease renovation plans
Continued inefficient use of space and after school crowding
Critical infrastructure improvements delayed or canceled
Reduced access to technologically appropriate meeting space
