Serving the City of Pomona for 30 years has certainly been the greatest honor of my life.

To the community of Pomona, I sincerely thank you for the amazing relationships and the progress that we made by working together. Thank you for allowing me to serve you.

To the men and women of the Pomona Police Department, I will always deeply cherish each of you and will always support the noble work you do each and every day for society. Please be safe.

Last year we declared that we would deploy extra officers everyday of the week to address quality of life issues on our streets and in our parks. Several months later we are still at it.

So far in January:

54 arrests
34 citations
19 people wanted in other counties were transported and booked on their facilities.

Since I made my media release in August 2019, that I had enough and committed to all of you that we would start a new special detail to combat the issue:

705 arrests
1288 citations
181 people wanted in other counties were transported and booked at their facilities.

“Operation Healthy Streets” is a special 7-days a week OT operation to focus specifically on quality of life violations (trespassing, drugs, drinking, being in the park after dark, etc) that generally are low-level criminal conduct occurring on our streets and in our parks.

I may provide leadership, but the men and women of Pomona PD do all the very hard work and consistently make us all so proud.

I hope you had a chance to see Pomona PD representing California on A&E’s Live PD show over the last two nights.

A person recently posted a comment on my page that represented my thoughts exactly:

“‪With the high demand for law enforcement transparency... There's not much more you can do to keep someone accountable than letting a couple million people watch them perform their job.‬”

More episodes to come.

Yes- we are going to be on Live PD.

Live PD season 4 returns tomorrow, Friday, January 3rd and Saturday, January 4th at 9PM ET/6PM PT and will feature Pomona PD. We are the second agency in California to be featured on Live PD- which offers unfiltered live access inside the country’s busiest police forces and the communities they patrol.

We believe the show does a great job of showing regular and every day interactions between the police and the community and we are excited to have the opportunity to be featured. The show airs on Friday and Saturday nights at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT on A&E Network (check your local listings).

I’ve been blessed to serve this City for so many years. Over the Christmas holiday I decided to move my retirement date up to the end of January; October was just too far away. I am so looking forward to being more present ‘in the moment’ with my family and friends... especially while my two sons are still young.

Tonight we attended the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Academy Graduation (Class 216), where two of our newest Pomona officers graduated. Afterwards, I swore them both in. They will start field training soon.

At last night’s City Council Meeting, I had the pleasure to introduce our new Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Team (SET Team). This newly formed unit will focus their full attention on the Holt Av and adjacent areas to make a more visible and sustained improvement on prostitution and human trafficking related offenses.

The officers selected are Angela Torres and Diana Hernandez. Angela has been with the Department for 14 years and Diana 15 years. Both of these officers are highly trained and experienced in the field of Human Trafficking. Both are pro-active with arrests and citations, but area also compassionate and take a victim-centered approach while searching to rescue women and minor girls that are trafficked. Going after pimps/traffickers and the men that solicit s*x will be a priority.

This unit will hit the streets in January, and will be supervised by Sergeant Brian Hagerty and Lt. Anthony Catanese, as an expansion of our quality of life unit.

We will keep you posted on Social Media as we share results after numerous a sustained series of special operations.
