Chemawa Middle School Official Chemawa Middle School page It is located on 20.5 acres bordering Magnolia Avenue in the southwest end of the city of Riverside.

Chemawa is proud of its Professional Learning Community where teachers and staff join together to build learning bridges and connect with students, parents and the local community on a daily basis. Led by Principal Raúl Ayala, Chemawa Middle School is one of seven middle schools in the Riverside Unified School District. Chemawa is an Indian word which means Happy Home and it is just that to over 1100 seventh and eighth grade students. Built in 1928, Chemawa first opened as a junior high school that served three grade levels which included seventh through ninth grade. The school was redesigned as a middle school in 1973 and updated to meet new structural building requirements. Then in 2006, several buildings on campus were again refurbished and a brand new 700 wing added. Chemawa Middle School has deep historical roots within the local Riverside community. Many children attending Chemawa today are second or even third generation Chemawa students. Several staff members attended Chemawa as students. Because the local community is quite diverse and rich in culture, Chemawa has been able to forge many wonderful traditions and nurture a strong community identity over the years. Chemawa is proud that local businesses partner with our school on an ongoing basis in support of the social and academic success of all our students.

🎶🎤 Our Cougars are making beautiful music! 💙🧡

Last night, our talented choir students joined middle school singers from across RUSD for the Middle School Sing at Arlington High School!

A special thank you to Mr. Hays, who travels from Arlington to Chemawa every day to share his passion for music with our students! 🎵 His dedication gives our Cougars the opportunity to discover their voices, develop their talents, and experience the joy of singing together.

We are so grateful for Mr. Hays and so proud of our Cougar choir! 🐾💙🧡
