OUR MISSION:
"To protect, preserve and enhance the quality of Riverside County watershed by fostering a community-wide commitment to clean water."

Riverside County Watershed Protection is a partnership program between Riverside County, the Flood Control & Water Conservation District, Coachella Valley Water District and 27 cities that manage watershed programs focused on sustainable and productive use of our natural resources. The partnership uses a multi-faceted approach—including education, best management practices, evaluation and water qu

ality monitoring—to eliminate stormwater pollution in our waterways and comply with all federal, state and local regulations. Our aim is to empower residents with information about pollution prevention and implement tactics that keep our watersheds healthy.

🌱 Spruce up your yard this summer while keeping it water-wise!

A few simple changes to your watering routine can help your plants stay healthy, reduce water waste, and protect our local waterways. 💧

Try these tips:
💦 Water your lawn in short “spurts” of 3–5 minutes, giving the soil time to absorb water and helping prevent runoff.
🔧 Check your irrigation system regularly and repair broken sprinklers to prevent unnecessary water loss.

💧 We're kicking off a new summer series featuring water-saving tips from Riverside County water districts! First up is Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, sharing simple ways to use water more efficiently outdoors.

Here are a few easy tips to try:

🌱 Water during the early morning when temperatures are cooler and winds are lighter to help reduce evaporation.
🌿 Add a layer of organic mulch around plants to help retain moisture and save hundreds of gallons of water each year.
🧹 Grab a broom instead of a hose when cleaning your driveway or sidewalk to save about 80 gallons of water every time.

🌳 Green spaces do more than provide a place to relax. They play an important role in protecting our waterways!

Fairmount Park in Riverside is a great example of how trees, plants, and natural areas help support a healthier watershed. Located along the Santa Ana River, the park’s trees, lakes, and waterways provide habitat for wildlife while helping capture and slow stormwater runoff. 🌊

When rain falls on natural landscapes, plants and soil help absorb water, reducing the amount of runoff that can carry pollutants into our local waterways. Green spaces like Fairmount Park help filter water, protect wildlife, and create healthier communities.
From the shade of its mature trees to the wildlife that depends on its waterways, Fairmount Park reminds us why protecting and creating green spaces is an important part of protecting our watershed. 💙

🌱 Keep your garden thriving through August with these seasonal tips from the UC Master Gardener Program of Riverside County!

The summer heat can be tough on plants, but a few simple actions can help your landscape stay healthy:
💧 Water wisely by watering between midnight and 10 a.m. to help conserve moisture and reduce the risk of fungal issues.
🐞 Keep pests in check by spraying aphids with water or using insecticidal soap when needed.
🌿 Pull w**ds early to keep garden beds manageable and reduce competition for water.
🍅 Harvest vegetables as they ripen to encourage continued production.
🌱 Continue adding mulch to help retain soil moisture and control w**ds.
✂️ Give fruit bushes one final summer pruning to keep them healthy and productive.

Congratulations to our Clean the Streets DIY Yard Sign Art Contest winner, Antonio C.! 🎉

Antonio, a 6th grade student from La Quinta, impressed us with a creative design that reminds everyone why it's important to scoop the p**p and help protect our waterways!
Here's what inspired his artwork:
"I have read that dog p**p is not really beneficial to the environment and that the responsible thing to do is scoop it up and dispose of it properly. I was inspired to share information about how harmful dog p**p can be, and I also included some of the creatures that spread the parasites and diseases found in dog p**p."
