🚒🚓🩺 STEM LEAPS Success! Inspiring the Next Generation of First Responders

High school students from across the City of Riverside spent an exciting week exploring careers in Fire Service, Law Enforcement, EMS, and Nursing through hands-on learning with the City of Riverside Fire & Police Departments and RCC School of Nursing.
Working in teams, students tackled a real-world Design Challenge by creating innovative solutions to help first responders and healthcare professionals.
🏆 Design Challenge Winners:
🥇 1st Place – Team 1: Vigilant Industries. Designed a smart visor that attaches to a tactical helmet with thermal imaging and medical screening capabilities to assist first responders.
🥈 2nd Place – Team 2: The Cooler Suit, Designed frozen cooling gel packs worn under bomb squad and HazMat suits to help keep first responders cool in extreme conditions.
🥉 3rd Place – Team 3: BreathEZ, Designed a device that attaches to a patient and automatically monitors breathing rate, helping medical personnel assess patients more efficiently.
A huge thank you to Fire Public Education Coordinator Gina Perez and STEP Lead Mentor Madison Eason for leading this incredible program. Special thanks to our partners, City of Riverside Fire & Police Departments, RCC School of Nursing, Bourns, RCOE, RUSD and all of the mentors, staff, and volunteers who made this experience possible.
Together, we're inspiring the next generation of innovators and first responders!
