August 17 was National Nonprofit Day, and today we had the opportunity to recognize its importance during council by presenting a proclamation in honor of the incredible work nonprofits do in our community.

We were proud to recognize Lighthouse of Hope Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit that supports communities throughout Riverside and the Inland Empire by providing food assistance, essential resources, and community support to families, seniors, and individuals facing hardship.

Please join me in celebrating nonprofits like Lighthouse of Hope Foundation and thanking them for the meaningful work they do every day to support and uplift our community!

Riverside’s Public Safety and Engagement Team (PSET) is in the community seven days a week offering shelter, housing, behavioral health services, and other resources to those experiencing homelessness.

The reality is that many individuals decline the services available, and the City cannot force someone to accept care. While that makes this work challenging, our teams—including PSET, the Police Department, City contractors, and PANs—are out every day doing the hard work of connecting people to services, improving neighborhoods, and responding to community concerns.

Villegas and Salvador J. Lara.
