If you know a police officer, corrections officer, or someone working within our corrections system, tag them below or send them this post. I want to hear from them.

The recent state audit confirmed that Salt Lake County has made more than 100,000 inmate releases due to overcrowding since 2007.

That tells me these challenges didn’t happen overnight, and they won’t be solved overnight either.

I may not have every answer today, but I’m willing to listen to the people doing this work every single day.

I’m already meeting with city councils, asking questions, listening, and working to build a real strategy for the future of public safety in Salt Lake County.

To our officers and corrections professionals: What are you seeing? What needs to change? What could we be doing better?

Your experience matters, and I want it to be part of the conversation.

For over nine years, one of the biggest underlying problems affecting public safety in Salt Lake County has gone unresolved.

Our jail system is a critical part of keeping our communities safe, and we can’t keep accepting the same problems year after year without real solutions.

I’m running for Sheriff because I believe it’s time for experienced leadership, accountability, and a clear plan to fix what isn’t working.

Nine years is long enough. It’s time for change.

Utah is growing, and with more families choosing to call this place home, we have to make sure public safety grows with it.

Our kids deserve to inherit a community that is safe, strong, and prepared for the future. That means having enough jail capacity to hold offenders accountable, while also using that time to provide treatment, rehabilitation, and real opportunities for people to change.

For too long, overcrowding has been part of the problem. Since 2007, more than 100,000 people have been released early from the Salt Lake County Jail because of overcrowding.

We can do better. We need the space to hold those who need to be held, the resources to help people who are ready to change, and a public safety system built for the Utah our children will inherit.

This is about protecting families today and building a safer Utah for generations to come.

Crime is growing across Salt Lake County, and we can’t afford to ignore it any longer. Releasing inmates just hours after they’re booked isn’t making our neighborhoods safer and our communities deserve better.

We need to talk honestly about what’s happening, address the problems head-on, and find real solutions that put public safety first.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to join Kearns Community 411 to talk about these important issues and the future of safety in our communities.
