I've had the opportunity to attend the Wyoming Association of Municipalities Board Meeting this week, where one of the topics we discussed was a simple but important question: “What is government—and what should it be?”

It reminded me of a passage from a 1902 speech by President Theodore Roosevelt that still rings true today:

"The average citizen must realize that it is on his shoulders that the entire government structure rests. We get in the habit of speaking of the Government as if it were something apart from us. Now, the Government is us—we are the Government, you and I. And the Government is going to do well or ill accordingly as we, with sanity, with resolution, with broad charity and sound common sense, make up our minds that the affairs of the Government shall be managed."

It’s a powerful reminder that good government doesn’t just happen to us — it happens through us. Each of us plays a part in making our communities stronger.

I invite you to think about how you can make a positive contribution to good governance right here in Riverton. Each of us can make a difference—and if you’d like some ideas on how to get involved, let me know. I’ll do my best to help!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

This month, we join communities across the nation in recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Tonight, Mayor Tim Hancock signed a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month here in Riverton — reaffirming our community’s commitment to standing with survivors and supporting efforts to end domestic violence.

Together, we can help raise awareness, offer compassion, and promote healthy, respectful relationships. Every voice matters, and every action—big or small—helps build a safer Riverton for everyone.

Thank you, officers, for working to keep our community safe!

🚓 Meet the RPD Traffic Enforcement Team! 🚦

We’re out on the streets every day working to keep our roads safe for everyone — drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Whether it’s monitoring speed zones, watching for distracted driving, or enforcing traffic laws, our Traffic Enforcement team’s top priority is preventing crashes and saving lives. When we all follow the rules of the road, our community is safer for everyone.

👉 A quick reminder: Please follow posted speed limits, obey traffic signals, and stay alert behind the wheel. Safe driving isn’t just about avoiding a ticket — it’s about getting everyone home safely.
