The Riverton Police Dept. will host our annual Kids Christmas event on Saturday, December 10, 11a-1pm, at the Village Hall. Santa will be available to talk to kids and hand out treat bags and a small toy. Come help us kick off the Christmas season.

Ann Robb was instrumental in bringing the Riverton Village Library to Riverton. We were happy to have Ann’s daughters (Brenda Kelley, Donna Holinga, and Janet Robb) with us tonight to honor their mom.

Riverton's North County Teen Court is in need of a citizen coordinator. The citizen coordinator keeps notes, gets food/drinks for juror panel (not out of pocket), takes attendance, assists with other tasks. If interested, please call Sandy Walden 217-638-2038.

Great News: We are moving forward with the ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow at 10am for the new TA Express Truck Stop! They will be working at bringing the whole store online this week. This is an exciting week for Riverton and the surrounding area! It is very rewarding to see ordinary people do extraordinary things together!

The Village of Riverton Police Dept. wants you to know that a train has broken down on all crossings. They are trying to get fixed as soon as possible. The Camp Butler crossing is open, we don't know if Petal Road is open or not. Do not walk under or in between the cars as they still have air in their lines so they could possibly move.

Truck stop update: The truck stop is nearing completion. The challenges of getting a project of this size completed with supply issues and Mother Nature have created some delays. The owners are hoping that everything will fall into place for a soft opening on September 19, 2022. We will offer more updates as they are given to us.

We are asking residents to help the Police and Fire Departments by putting address numbers on the house, duplex, apartment, etc... This will not only help police and fire quickly find a residence in an emergency, but also UPS, Post Office and Fed Ex deliveries as well.

The Village of Riverton Police Dept is having a car show on July 29th and July 30th, 2022. They are also having National Night out on Tuesday August 2nd from 6pm until after the fireworks. This year they are having free food, bouncy house, a dunk tank, target shoot and popcorn. The Army will be there and a K-9 show. Come out to both events and have fun

Weather Delay:
Unfortunately with all the rain last week it has delayed the road work until July 18, 2022.
Riverton Residents: The village will have road work begin for the following locations starting July 18, 2022, weather permitting. The residents in these areas will not be able to park on the street while the work is being done.

A license in gas, water and or sewer is preferred or a willingness to obtain one or more of the licenses. CDL is required or the ability to obtain a CDL. There is a gentleman named Deividas Maciunskas going around Riverton selling educational books for families this week. He is with Southwestern Advantage out of Tennessee; he will be on foot or on a bicycle.

SMTD Service cancellation
Unfortunately, due to driver shortages, we have to cancel service for Friday. We have five pieces of work with no drivers available to cover. Apologies for the last minute notice. The train that is on the tracks is having air brake problems as they are locked up, they are trying to find where it is leaking to get it fixed. Thank you for your patience.
With the recent rains and increasing temperatures, mowing has picked up. I would like to remind residents DO NOT blow grass into the street when cutting your lawn. Not only is it dangerous and illegal per statute, but restricts our sewer flows and clogs drainage. So please be conscience of where the grass end ups and save a lot of headache. Ty in advance.

(B) It shall be unlawful to build or light a fire which creates or causes pollution of the air, noxious fumes or a nuisance by its fumes, smoke or spreading ash.
(C) It shall be unlawful and is declared a nuisance to burn any hazardous substances or to build or light a fire which emits any toxic or hazardous emissions.
(D) It is unlawful to leave any open fire unattended.
(E) It is unlawful to build or light a fire, or let a fire burn or smolder one hour or more after sundown or when wind conditions are such that the fire presents a danger to the public safety.
(F) Nothing in this section shall preclude the building of non-toxic, nor reasonable, fires for outdoor recreation; provided that, such fires shall be responsibly attended and shall be fully extinguished by 10:00 p.m.

Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday April 9th, 10am, at the Christian Church, 1245 N 7th. Age groups will be 0 -2, Preschool to 1st grade, 2nd and 3rd grade, 4th and 5th grade. The Easter Bunny will be there also. In case of rain, the event will be held inside in the gym.
The Village had a water main break at 2nd and Washington causing low pressure to the south side. The guys have it repaired and are closing it up now. Pressure should be ok now. At this time there is no boil order.
