🚨 TRAINING NOTICE 🚨

Tonight, members will be conducting Boat & River Rescue Training in the area of Wheeland Park. Residents may notice emergency vehicles, rescue boats, personnel in the water, and increased activity around the river during this training exercise.

This is only a training event, and there is no danger to the public.

These exercises help our firefighters and rescue personnel remain prepared to respond safely and effectively to water emergencies in our community. We ask the public to use caution in the area and avoid interfering with training operations while crews are working.

Thank you for your continued support as we train to better serve and protect our community. 🚒🚤🌊

Community partnerships like this play a vital role in helping us continue to provide reliable emergency services, maintain equipment, support firefighter training, and keep our personnel prepared to respond when our residents need us most.

We are incredibly grateful for organizations like INB that recognize the importance of supporting local first responders and investing back into the communities they serve. Your generosity and support truly make a difference.

Today, at Riverton Fire we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Memorial Day is more than a holiday — it is a time of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We are especially humbled and honored to protect Camp Butler National Cemetery, a sacred place where thousands of America’s heroes are laid to rest. Having Camp Butler within our district is a constant reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who served.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and keep their families in our thoughts.

From all of us at Riverton Fire — thank you to all who have served, and may we never forget those who gave all. 🇺🇸

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, the Riverton Fire Department proudly recognizes the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters across the world—both career and volunteer.

As a volunteer department, our members answer the call at all hours—leaving behind their families, jobs, and personal lives to serve this community. They do it not for recognition, but because of a deep commitment to helping others in their time of need.

We also take a moment to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.

To our members, past and present—thank you for your service, your strength, and your unwavering dedication to Riverton.

Stay safe, and take pride in the brotherhood and sisterhood we share.

Happy Easter Sunday!!

We definitely had a busy day here in Riverton!! Your members started with possible structure fire: stove fire while cooking, a quick thinking resident of the home was able to smother it until fire personnel could arrive and verify all was safe!! Dawson Fire Protection District and Sherman Fire were called upon as part of our automatic mutual aide response.

We were later called for a rescue on the sangamon river: 2 individuals were clinging to a tree in the water and couldn't get out. Riverton Fire personnel along with Riverton PD and Lifestar ambulance were able to quickly locate the individuals and rescue them with the use of our boat! Additional resources were requested from Sangamon Co. Rescue Squad and Sherman Fire Protection District as we never know what may be needed in these situations. Thank you to all of our mutual aide partners for being there anytime our community needs!!

As we were getting things put back in order we were paged for a medical response!!

Great work to this team!!

We always welcome anyone interested in joining the Riverton Fire Department to contact us!!! Please Volunteer!!

📢🧯ATTENTION🧯

We know the weather is getting much nicer and everyone wants to get out and get the yard cleaned up! And while the dirt might feel wet, the grass and leaves are still rather dry.

With the wind and drought conditions it is not safe to have open fires and burning at this time!

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM OPEN BURNING 🔥

This week, your Chatham Fire Department was proud to host an evening of education and dinner for the MABAS 48 Chiefs.

What is MABAS?
MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) is a statewide mutual aid network that allows fire departments, EMS, and emergency management agencies to work together seamlessly during large-scale incidents. Departments are organized into regional “divisions,” and MABAS 48 represents our surrounding area.

These meetings give chiefs the opportunity to share information, review response plans, strengthen partnerships, and ensure we’re always ready to support one another when emergencies exceed local resources.

Thank you to the MABAS 48 Chiefs for the collaboration, conversation, and continued commitment to keeping our communities safe. Together, we’re stronger.
