URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE

RED FLAG WARNING in effect from NOON TO 9 PM Thursday, March 12th, for wind and low relative humidity for all of Eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.

The US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM CDT Thursday.

* TIMING...From noon to 9 PM CDT Thursday.

* WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is NOT recommended.

A RED FLAG WARNING means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Outdoor burning is NOT ADVISED!!!

Help Us Avoid Unnecessary Fire Responses

As temperatures warm up and controlled burns begin, please take a few easy steps to keep everyone safe and prevent avoidable fire department responses.

Before and after your burn, call the Fremont County Dispatch
712-374-2424.

Have a plan and be smart with your burning. If you're going to start a fire, have a way to extinguish it. Call dispatch to make them aware of your controlled burn. This prevents unnecessary responses from your local volunteer fire department.
