🏙️🎨 Welcome to Array City! ✖️➕

Our 2nd grade Sharks have been learning all about arrays and how equal rows and columns help build the foundation for repeated addition and multiplication. Our art teacher, Mrs. Maguire gave students the perfect chance to put that learning into action! 🧠✨

Each student designed a building using arrays, and then all of their creations were combined into one colorful collaborative masterpiece: “Array City!” 🌆💙

This is what learning looks like when math and creativity collide. Students weren’t just practicing arrays, they were applying, creating, and making connections with their new learning.

Way to build those math minds, Sharks! 🦈🏗️

Safety is everyone’s job! 🛑🚌

From the moment students step onto the bus until they arrive at school, safety comes first. We remind our students to:

✔️ Stay seated
✔️ Keep aisles clear
✔️ Follow the driver’s directions
✔️ Wait for the driver’s signal before crossing

Let’s work together to keep every [School Name] student safe on the journey to and from school! 💙

🔬🦈 Science vocabulary came to life in Mrs. Gibson’s 5th grade class!

Our fifth grade Sharks were working on much more than simply defining science words. Students were challenged to make connections between vocabulary terms, explain how the words fit together, and defend the reasoning behind their thinking. 💡🧠

The student discourse was fantastic! We heard students discussing, questioning, revising their ideas, and using science vocabulary such as force, friction, energy, circuits, push, pull, attract, repel, conductors, and more to build meaningful connections.

This is the kind of learning we love to see: students doing the thinking, talking about their thinking, and learning from one another. 💙✨

🎥 Be sure to check the comments for one example video of our Sharks explaining their vocabulary connections!

🔬🏆 Summerfield Sharks Shine at Regional Science Olympics! 🦈💙

Today, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Sharks represented Summerfield at the Regional Science Olympics at York K-8 Innovation Academy, and they made us incredibly proud! Our students put their creativity, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and engineering minds to the test through some seriously fun challenges.

Our 3rd graders from Mrs. Burnham’s class designed and built wind racers using pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, tape, a file folder, and copy paper 🌬️🏎️.

Our 4th grader from Mrs. DonFila’s class tackled the challenge of creating a marshmallow flyer using snap cubes, rubber bands, and a paint stick 🚀.

Our 5th graders from Mrs. Gibson’s class engineered a marble coaster using pipe insulation, tape, and paper cups. 🎢

And the results were AMAZING…

🥇 Our 3rd graders earned FIRST PLACE!

🥇 Our 5th graders earned FIRST PLACE!

We are so proud of all of our Sharks for taking risks, thinking creatively, persevering through challenges, and showing exactly what young engineers can do! 💡⚙️✨

A special thanks to Mrs. Goodridge, our science resource teacher, for helping at today’s event and assisting for all our schoolwide and class events.

Way to represent Summerfield! Beyond Boundaries isn’t just our theme, it’s exactly what our Sharks did today! 🚀🦈
