Summer Camp officially starts on Monday, and our team is ready! New and returning staff spent the day preparing with person-centered training and informed care are to ensure every camper has a safe and fun summer.

Staff received hands-on training from Safe Patient Handling Trainer Adele C***s of Highland Park on how to properly use a Hoyer lift. Plus, we reviewed each camper’s allergies, preferences, swimming levels, communication styles, likes, and dislikes to help make this the best summer ever.

We can’t wait to see our campers on Monday!

At CEL, we believe that real community is built one kind moment at a time. This Sunday, member Brian showed exactly what that looks like.

During our Discovery World Excursion, Brian took it upon himself to help engage fellow member Drew in every activity throughout the day. No one asked him to. He just showed up for his friend, and that made all the difference.

That energy carried through the whole outing. Members loved exploring the interactive, sensory-friendly exhibits together, and Katie had a wonderful time taking it all in. To top it all off, the crew headed to Chipotle Mexican Grill for the very first time. Members got to customize their own bowls and loved every bite. Safe to say, a new favorite spot has been found!

⚾️ It’s baseball season and our REACH members had a ball cheering on the Schaumburg Boomers as they faced off against the Aigles de Trois-Rivières

CEL members Smader and Erin spotted the T-shirt toss and made their move and snagged some Boomers merch! Everyone else kept the fun going; snapping pics and getting autographs from the Boomers mascot Coop, purchasing mini baseball bats, and singing along to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." To top it off, the Boomers brought home the W! 🙌 It was the perfect spring day filled with sunshine, friendship, and all of the ballpark fun.

🎸 The music never stops at CEL and we had a rockin' visit to prove it! Our gym became the hottest venue in town when The Ultraviolet Rubber Band came to play and we're still not over it.
Members were on their feet, singing along, and dancing all afternoon to classic 50s and 60s rock hits that had the whole room electrified. Michael and Dave, you rocked our world and the smiles you brought to members' faces were worth every encore.

We are so grateful for volunteers who share their incredible gifts with members, and we cannot wait to have you both back again this summer!

Every morning at CEL, something special happens. Members and staff enter the doors excited to see each other, ready continue conversations, friendships, projects, and routines that matter to them. That kind of connection does not happen everywhere, but at CEL, it is everything.

CEL programs are built around each person and the ways they want to experience the world, whether that means learning something new, pursuing a passion, building confidence, or forming lasting relationships. Our staff work every day to cultivate those opportunities and make sure every member feels known, supported, and included.

Art at CEL is more than just creating something, it’s about connecting with others, trying new techniques, and discovering artists who inspire us! 🎨 Members in REACH, Tuesday Night Art, and Wednesday Night Sampler are regularly creating art, crafts, and exploring their creative sides.

Last week, members in Tuesday Night Art explored the bold woodcut style of contemporary artist Wendo Brunoir. Experimenting with shapes, color, and layers, everyone created their own abstract cardboard masterpieces!

Once they wrapped up their abstract pieces, members kept the creativity going with individual projects. Sofia put the finishing touches on her Solar System, Mayra continued working hard on her princess painting, and Dunham used tissue paper to make a textured collage! Every piece reflected each artist's unique perspective and style.

Every Tuesday brings opportunities to express yourself, practice new skills, and build friendships along the way!

Sunday Fun Day at CEL is always full of creativity and fun! Members embraced their inner Picasso as they experimented with different art techniques and materials to make their very own collages. Many of our artists were inspired by spring themes like flowers, the sun, and nature!

When members aren't creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces, they are playing games, relaxing in the sensory room, jamming out to music, making delicious snacks, or hitting the gym. Every day at CEL brings new opportunities to create, connect, and choose your own adventure!
