COMMUNITY IN ACTION: SEE A NEED. TAKE ACTION. 💙🏈
Sometimes making a difference starts with simply paying attention.
After seeing a recent Palm Beach Post social media post highlighting the challenges facing the Inlet Grove High School football program, Riviera Beach CRA Clean & Safe Manager Jamael Stewart decided that sharing the story wasn’t enough. He reached out, listened to the needs of the school and its football program, and began bringing people together to help.
Through the collective support of Mayor Doug Lawson, City Manager Bill Wilkins, Gedel Merzius, Executive Director of the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Police Chief Michael Coleman, Commissioner Shirley Lanier, Commissioner Aide Sammie Brown, local businesses, community partners, and the Riviera Beach CRA, those conversations quickly turned into action.
🏈 A safer place to play: Inlet Grove’s football team now has access to Dan Calloway Park in Riviera Beach for its home games, providing student-athletes with a regulation playing surface and a safer environment.
🏈 Equipment to practice: The program now has adequate footballs to support its practices.
🏈 New uniforms are coming: New uniforms are being ordered to replace uniforms that have served the team for more than 15 years.
This is bigger than football.
It is about supporting our young people, creating safe opportunities for them to grow and succeed, and showing what is possible when government, schools, businesses, and community leaders come together around a shared purpose.
The Riviera Beach CRA is proud of Jamael for seeing a need and taking the initiative to bring people together, and grateful to every person and organization that answered the call.
