Clean Valley Council

Clean Valley Council We are an environmental education nonprofit promoting sustainable practices in our community!

Clean Valley Council is a non-profit environmental education conservation organization. Since 1978, it has provided environmental education programming for PreK to adults promoting sustainability, litter prevention, recycling, and stormwater pollution prevention in the Roanoke Valley. CVC reaches youth and adults of all ages, providing free educational programming for all schools in our area. We e

ncourage stewardship through education, promoting practices that protect our waterways, natural resources and our lands. CVC’s programs and events advocate for litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, stormwater pollution prevention and protecting our natural resources. We conduct two valley-wide litter cleanup events each year and are the “go to” resource for local recycling information.

Let it flow. Protect the natural floodplain. 🌿

When oil, pesticides, litter, or other debris are dumped in the street or into ditches, it ends up in the Roanoke River and its tributaries via our stormdrain network. Our natural aquatic resources moderate flooding, create habitat, and are important cultural and recreational focal points of our area. Help us protect the natural environment by disposing of waste properly and keeping streets and stormdrains clear. Dispose of household waste at the Tinker Creek Transfer Station or contact the City of Roanoke Solid Waste Department with any concerns related to your household waste collection or observed dumping/large amounts of litter.

Let’s keep our streams clean. If you see illicit discharges, report them: City of Roanoke 540-853-5900; Roanoke County 540-772-2065; Town of Vinton 540-983-0646; and City of Salem 540-375-3032.

We need your input!📣

Do you live in the Trout Run watershed? Do you want to help the City of Roanoke identify stormwater projects? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are conducting a watershed survey to better understand flood risk in the Trout Run community. We are developing a master plan for the Trout Run watershed that will help us identify projects to improve water quality and reduce flooding. Several studies have suggested that significant flooding can occur in parts of this watershed, but we have limited community information on past floods and the damage residents and businesses have experienced.

Folks living or who own property in this watershed should be receiving a survey in the mail very soon. You can mail it back to us using the provided envelope. You can also take the survey in English or en Español online here: https://engage.zencity.io/roanoke-va/ht-HT/projects/trout-run-watershed.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
