June 1 -5 is Medicare Fraud Prevention Week! There are actions everyone can take to prevent Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. Medicare Fraud Prevention Week runs the week of June 5, or 6/5, because most people become eligible for Medicare when they turn 65!

Some common examples of fraud, errors, or abuse could include:

💲Charging for services or supplies that were not provided
⚕️Misrepresenting a diagnosis, a person’s identity, the service provided, or other facts to justify payment
😷Prescribing or providing excessive or unnecessary tests and services

Falling prey to consumer scams or health care fraud may mean that your Medicare number has been “compromised” as a result of medical identity theft!

What can you do to prevent Medicare Fraud?
1. Prevent fraud by refusing unknow callers, and staying up to date on the latest scams.
2. Detect potential fraud by reviewing Medicare reports for accuracy. Make it easy by using the My Health Care Tracker to log visits and activity. See 🔗 in comments.
3. Report suspected fraud to the Senior Medicare Patrol: Call 1-877-808-2468 to be connected to your local SMP.

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, LOA's Annual Staff Appreciation Day included a morning of in-service with some valuable training. We also recognized 3 staff service anniversaries: Hannah Stevens, Urban Nutrition Manager - 5 years; Lenora Taylor, Care Coordinator - 10 years; Barbara Clayborn - 15 years. Thanks for your dedicated service to LOA!

Later the team went to 540 Social - Roanoke for lunch and an afternoon of fun, including axe throwing and the arcade.

Thanks LOA Staff for all you do!

Today is Give Local Alleghany Highlands, the annual online giving campaign that aims to help bring awareness to the nonprofit needs in that community!

LOA serves Virginia's 9th planning district which stretches all the way into the Alleghany Highlands, serving Alleghany County, the city of Covington and the towns of Clifton Forge, and Iron Gate. It can be a challenge, but we work to ensure services reach the folks who need them in these outlying communities.

Your donation to LOA during Give Local Alleghany Highlands goes directly into those communities! Give today to help Alleghany seniors remain independent in their homes for as long as possible!
