We had a wonderful time engaging with students and faculty about sustainable transportation options at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Nokie Resource Fair at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke!

As we approach Transit Month in September, our outreach focused on popular routes that are accessible from the VTC campus:

🌟The Star Line Trolley:
Offers free transportation to retail businesses, schools, and restaurants located along Jefferson Street between Downtown Roanoke and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

⏰Runs from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, with service every 20 minutes.

🚌The Smart Way and Express Buses:
These routes connect the Roanoke Valley with the New River Valley. Key destinations include:

🏫Roanoke VTC campus
🚆Amtrak station
🏨Hotel Roanoke and Higher Education Center
✈Roanoke Blacksburg Airport
🚗Park and rides
⛪Blacksburg Municipal Building
🚍Transit Center at Virginia Tech's campus

Regular passes are priced at $4, but it's FREE with a Hokie Passport!

Park and Ride lots in our region facilitate carpools and vanpools for commuting to work or school, with two locations available in Roanoke County that support transit options.

These lots offer a convenient, free parking solution for commuters, especially those traveling longer distances, and even accommodate overnight parking.

🚍 The best way to learn how to navigate the bus system is to Try Transit Together! ✨

We had a wonderful Try Transit outing with the staff from the Roanoke Department of Social Services Self-Sufficiency program. We traveled on Valley Metro - Roanoke routes 21/22, starting from their location on Williamson Rd to the Third St Transit Center and back.

🙌🏽Gaining hands-on experience in planning routes and riding the bus equips staff members with the knowledge and confidence they need to assist clients seeking transportation. The Self-Sufficiency program offers vital services such as job readiness and placement assistance, work experience opportunities, and job skills training.

Empowering individuals through education is a crucial first step in helping people reach their destinations— whether for work, school, or essential errands. RIDE Solutions takes pride in delivering valuable education on transportation options through community partnerships.

Whether you represent an employee group or an organization that supports individuals needing transportation, RIDE Solutions can create a customized bus trip tailored to your needs.
