We are arranging a dinner and snacks.

Community Service forms will be available for those teens who need them for their schools.

Teens who want to help organize the Jam will be $13 an hour, up to five hours. It's getting close to the event, but we will try to get your hours in. Adults are also volunteering. (Please note: if you are an adult, we will do a background check on you before you can help at the Jam).

The planners have done copious outreach to get the word out to teens. Please spread the word yourself, however!

And here is general information on the Teen Peace Jam:

Plowshare Peace Center will present our tenth annual Teen Peace Jam from 1 to 8 PM on May 16 at the Roanoke Unitarian-Universalist Church, 2015 Grandin Rd. All teens from ages 12 to 19 are invited.

In that effort we have made contacts with local schools, youth associations and especially spiritual communities: Muslim, Catholic, Baptist, Evangelical, Quaker, Unitarian, and Jewish, to mention only a few.

The Jam will offer workshops on peace, justice, art and life skills. We will serve a dinner and offer performances by teens. There will be a speaker as well as Open Time.

Plowshare will pay teens $13 an hour, up to five hours, to help organize the jam. Teens can earn seven community service hours to attend the event. Adult volunteers are also needed. And it will all be free!

PLOWSHARE-PEACE VIGIL ON SATURDAY, APRIL18

Concerned about the Iran War? Concerned about the thousands killed? Concerned about the money wasted? Concerned that the United States President has threatened genocide?

As the No Kings Alliance has demonstrated, public witness can change things.

Plowshare will hold its monthly peace vigil on Saturday, April 18. The vigil will gather from noon to 1 PM in front of the City Market Building, 32 Market Square E.

Plowshare especially invites people concerned about the Gaza-Israel War and the Iran War.

The Plowshare peace vigil format is an hour of silence, though participants unused to silence do talk softly. That time of silence encourages us to reflect on peace and ways we can work toward peace. It also allows us to speak with people who don't agree with us. Plowshare provides signs, though you may make your own. All signs should be respectful. Poles for flags are not permitted, though you may hold flags. If you find it difficult to stand for an hour, you may bring a stool. You may also take a break in the City Market Building.

Free parking is available in the parking garage behind the Wells-Fargo building or along the street on Campbell Av., east of Williamson Rd. Walking time from the garage is about one minute; walking time for the Campbell Av. is about two minutes.

Plowshare has held vigils on the City Market since the 1970's. We began our monthly silent peace vigil in April 2005 and with a few breaks for blizzards, hurricanes, heatwaves and plague have gathered ever since.

We always gather on the third Saturday of the month from noon to 1 PM in front of the Roanoke City Market building. All are welcome.
