Lieutenant Lipes played a critical role in ensuring the opening of our New Training Center. He took the lead of what would be project coordinator as we transferred from the regional training center to our stand alone facility. While the cadre continued with a Recruit School and planned for a Recruit Academy in the new building, Lt. Lipes was the contact for all things related to getting the new building prepped! We appreciate his hard work and dedication through his entire career but we are a little bias to his last year! Thank you for good stories!

🚒🔥 Exciting News! Members from Roanoke Fire-EMS, Salem Fire & EMS and Lynchburg Fire have successfully completed the Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s Chemistry of Hazardous Materials course! This is the first time this course has been offered in Southwest Virginia in many decades and we are honored to have hosted!

This two week course is a specialist level course of intense instruction that provides a sound understanding of the basic chemistry of hazardous materials. It directs students to the underlying reasons for chemical behavior of hazardous materials and improves decision making, safe operations and handling of materials.

A big congratulations to these dedicated professionals for enhancing their expertise in hazardous materials response and for setting the bar high at our training facility.

🚨 A First for Our New Training Center! 🚨

We were proud to host the TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) Sports and Special Events Incident Management Course as the first course completed in the brand-new Roanoke Fire & EMS Training Center!

This comprehensive course brought in instructors from across the country to share their expertise and experience in the unique aspects of response to an incident during a sports/special event, including the considerations for business continuity and after-action activities. The students learn how to apply the National Incident Management System (NIMS). We greatly enjoyed having them take advantage of our facility and contribute to its successful launch.

💪 Here’s to many more training sessions that will strengthen community continuity in all activities and aspects of our region and beyond!
