Our crews spent the past several weeks working alongside other agencies, helping protect communities and property while battling challenging wildfire conditions.

The Ross Fire continues to challenge firefighters and communities across the area, but containment efforts are moving in the right direction.

Containment has improved from 21% earlier this week, to 26% Friday, and now 31% today, with the fire remaining at approximately 85,000 acres.

Roanoke Fire continues to support the ongoing response, working alongside fire departments and emergency responders from across Texas. We are proud of our crews who continue to step up and answer the call when our neighbors need help.

Our thoughts remain with the communities impacted by this fire and with all of the firefighters and responders working long hours in difficult conditions.

UPDATE: 7:36 pm The fire is out. You may still see an increased presence of fire apparatus and emergency personnel in the area as crews complete operations. Roadways may also remain impacted or temporarily closed.

If you are traveling through the area, please use caution and be patient.

**FIRE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY, 300 BLOCK OF MILLFORD ROAD**

Fire crews are currently working an active fire in the 300 block of Millford Road.

Please give our crews plenty of space to safely work. You may notice an increased presence of fire apparatus in the area, and nearby roadways may be temporarily closed or impacted while operations continue.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

Supporting the Ross Fire

Our department has been proud to support the ongoing response to the Ross Fire through both local mutual aid and the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS).

At this point, the Ross Fire has become the second-largest wildfire in North Texas history. Firefighters, emergency personnel, and supporting agencies from across the region and state continue working around the clock with a shared mission: protect lives, protect property, and make significant progress toward containing the fire.

Incidents of this size are truly a team effort, and we are grateful for every firefighter, dispatcher, emergency manager, law enforcement officer, support agency, and community member contributing to the response.

Please continue to keep everyone impacted by the Ross Fire, as well as the crews working tirelessly on the front lines, in your thoughts.

We are proud to stand alongside our mutual aid partners and TIFMAS resources when our neighbors need us most. 🚒

UPDATE: 6:25pm, the warning has been canceled for our area.

NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our area until 6:30pm. Possible hazards include 60mph winds and quarter-sized hail. If you are outdoors, please seek shelter indoors.

Please be aware that Denton County has issued a burn ban.

The Denton County Commissioners Court has issued a COUNTY-WIDE MANDATORY BURN BAN, effective today, August 25, 2026.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning and also includes restrictions on:

🚫 Outdoor hot work, including welding and cutting torch operations
🚫 The use of certain combustible materials
🚫 Other activities identified in the burn ban order that may create an increased fire hazard

Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires. Everyone is encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce heat, sparks, or open flame.

⚠️ Violation of the County Judge’s executive-ordered burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

The Ross Fire in Palo Pinto County has grown to more than 50,000 acres and has now spread into southern portions of Jack County.

The Roanoke Fire Department is among the Denton County agencies assisting with the response. Crews from Roanoke FD, along with firefighters from Pilot Point FD, Justin FD, Coppell FD, Little Elm FD, and Flower Mound FD, are supporting firefighting operations and providing additional resources to communities impacted by the fire.

We ask everyone to keep the residents, communities, and firefighters affected by this rapidly growing wildfire in your thoughts as crews continue working to protect lives and property.

⚠️ Elevated Fire Danger ⚠️ It’s Okay to Wait! ⚠️

With conditions remaining dry, today is a good day to ask yourself: Does this outdoor job really need to be done today?

If the answer is no, it’s perfectly okay to cancel or postpone outdoor work. There’s no need to mow the grass, use equipment, burn, weld, or do other activities that could create a spark or ignite dry vegetation.

🌾 Let the yard wait.
🛠️ Let the outdoor projects wait.
🔥 Don’t take unnecessary chances.

A job that can wait until conditions improve is not worth the risk of starting a fire. When it comes to fire prevention, there’s no shame in putting it off for another day. Tell your HOA that they can blame us this time.

[8/25 6:30 AM] An Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory continues today (Tuesday) with an elevated fire threat in place for much of the region. High temperatures up to 109 are expected, with afternoon humidity dropping to 15-25% and south winds of 10-15 mph. AVOID any activities that could start a wildfire!

Hot, dry, and windy conditions persist. Please use extra caution with outdoor activities and avoid anything that could create a spark or open flame.

🚫 Don’t burn debris when conditions are unsafe.
🚬 Never toss cigarette butts on the ground.
🔥 Keep grills and outdoor fires away from dry grass and other flammable materials.
📞 If you see a fire, report it immediately.

This week’s heat is no joke! 🥵 We’re heading into a LONG stretch of 100°+ days, and I think we can all agree it’s time for fall. 🍂

Stay hydrated, check on your neighbors, bring the pets inside, and take the heat seriously. Stay safe out there! ☀️
