Water matters to Roanoke! As of Aug. 17, 2026, Carvins Cove, Roanoke’s main water source, is 17.5 feet below full pond.

Help conserve water by raising your lawn mower blades to at least 3 inches. A higher cut encourages grass roots to grow deeper and hold on to moisture.

August 16 through August 22 is a B-week for curbside recycling.

Bins should be placed out by 7 a.m. on your collection day and removed from curbs by 7 a.m. the next day.

🚧 Road Closure Alert!

A section of Winona Avenue SW at the intersection of Main Street SW will be closed for paving from Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, through Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026. Drivers will not be able to turn left from Main Street SW onto Winona Avenue.

You've probably noticed a lot more painted walls in Roanoke over the past twenty years. Ben chairs the committee behind a good number of them and his advice for anyone with a blank wall is refreshingly simple: dream big, then go talk to your neighbors.

The Plan 26 survey asks where you want public art in Roanoke, blank walls included. It's open through the end of August at roanokearts.org/plan.
