Earlier today we were called for a medical emergency on US 24. A family member was trying to get the patient to the hospital when the front tire on their vehicle blew. The patient was transported emergent by ambulance to the hospital and we changed out the blown tire with the spare tire so the family member could get to the hospital.

We were called to the town park for a rescue today. Yes the joke of firefighters rescuing cats from trees is true. But the cat was very thankful that we are willing to put up with the hazing to help her out of the tree.

Remember that calling 911 is for emergencies ONLY. If your power is out or you are wanting to report damage, Huntington County Emergency Management is who you will want to reach out to so that they can document the aftermath of the storm. This will help free up resources at Huntington County Public Safety Dispatch.

We want to thank the Town of Roanoke employees as well as many citizens that came out to help last night with clean up efforts after the storms rolled through. Although we made most every road passable, there is still quite a bit of debris in the roadways.

As you make your way out of your homes today, make sure to look for downed power lines as well. It is best practice to always assume downed lines are still energized. AEP is working to restore power to the localized areas of outage.

Give yourself some extra time getting around today.
