Mercer County law enforcement agencies will join forces this weekend for a countywide high-visibility traffic enforcement initiative aimed at reducing roadway fatalities and promoting compliance with New Jersey’s Move Over Law.

Chief William Swanhart is proud to participate in the statewide Goal: Zero campaign on Saturday, June 6. The effort comes amid a troubling rise in traffic deaths across New Jersey. As of June 3, 208 people have been killed on the state’s roadways this year.

This year’s June enforcement detail is dedicated to the memory of New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano, who was struck and killed by a passing motorist on June 6, 2010, while investigating a report along Interstate 195. His death led to the enactment of New Jersey’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to slow down and, when safe, move over when approaching emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights.

The Goal: Zero campaign was launched in 2024 by Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky and brought together 36 municipalities to target dangerous driving behaviors. The campaign’s bright green logo symbolizes visibility and pedestrian safety, while a black mourning band honors those who have lost their lives in traffic crashes.

Motorists can expect increased enforcement activity throughout Mercer County, especially in Robbinsville on Saturday as officers focus on educating drivers and enforcing traffic safety laws.

The 2026 World Cup starts next week and law enforcement is working hard to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for all.

Human trafficking remains one of the world’s fastest-growing criminal activities. Major sporting events, while not the cause of trafficking, can magnify existing vulnerabilities, increase opportunities for exploitation, and highlight gaps in protection faced by migrants, youth and marginalized communities.

Visitors and residents who believe they have identified trafficking victims should contact 855-END-NJ-HT (855-363-6548).

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking or for victim assistance, contact Covenant House 24/7 at 862-240-2453.

Help us prevent human trafficking, abuse and exploitation.
