Robertsdale Fire Department

Robertsdale Fire Department 22575 St. Paul Street Robertsdale, AL The Robertsdale Fire Department was started in the late 1920′s. Paul Street, in 1992.

Percy Pollard was the first fire chief and the first station was located at the corner of Wilters Street and Highway 59. The training for the fire department was provided by the military personnel at Brookley Field in Mobile until the late 1960′s. The first fire truck was a used 1931 Seagrave that was donated by the city of Opp, Alabama. It was picked up by Herman “Scratchy” Mattingly and Josh Sel

lars. The first brand new fire engine was a 1947 Studebaker purchased from a local dealer and housed at Pennsylvania Street and Highway 59. It is currently housed at the present fire house and is functional, but is only used as a parade vehicle. A new 1968 International fire truck was purchased from a local vendor and in 1978, a Ford pumper bought from Harless Fire Sales was added to the station as well. Since then, two pumper trucks have also been added, one in 1991 and one in 1996. The fire station was eventually moved to City Hall’s present location on Racine Street. The fire department was reorganized in 1966 by developing their own by-laws and electing firefighters to represent the fire department in a more official capacity. The department was moved to it’s present location, on the corner of Nebraska and St.

📢With worsening drought conditions across the state and low relative humidity, State Forester Rick Oates has issued a statewide Fire Alert effective immediately.

Over the past weekend, 50 wildfires burned more than 2,300 acres of forestland across the state. This includes a 500-acre wildfire in Mobile County, one for 412 acres in Coosa County, one for 382 acres in Choctaw County, one for 260 acres in Washington County, and another one for 105 acres in Escambia County.

In the last 30 days, 387 wildfires have burned approximately 15,850 acres of forestland across the state.

“With no measurable rain in sight, the continued extremely dry conditions create dangerous wildfire behavior,” said Oates. “These conditions create the potential for fires to escape easily and spread rapidly, taking longer and more of the agency’s firefighting resources to contain. Fast-moving wildfires not only destroy property and forests but also threaten the lives of citizens and endanger firefighters.”

This Fire Alert will remain in effect until rescinded by the State Forester, at least through Monday, April 20. Conditions will be reevaluated at that time. Permits for outdoor burning will be restricted only to Certified Prescribed Burn Managers. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets and its citizens. To report a wildfire, call (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, contact your local AFC office or visit the agency website at www.forestry.alabama.gov

📢AFC URGING CAUTION AGAINST WILDFIRES📢

With forecasts calling for elevated wind speeds and a dry front passage across the state, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) strongly discourages any outdoor burning until conditions improve. The agency also points to dropping relative humidity and an increase in wind speed on Saturday as especially concerning.

With the anticipation of critical fire weather conditions, AFC is issuing a Fire Danger Advisory on Friday, March 27. The potential for critical fire weather elevates on Saturday, March 28, increasing the threat issued to a Fire Alert. By Sunday, March 29, the potential for critical fire weather decreases slightly, lowering the threat issued to a Fire Danger Advisory.

The combination of these conditions creates a greater-than-average potential for outdoor fires to escape easily and spread rapidly, taking longer – and more of the agency’s firefighting resources – to contain and ultimately control. Fast-moving wildfires not only destroy property and forests but also threaten the lives of citizens and endanger firefighters.

Prescribed burn permits will be limited to only Certified Prescribed Burn Managers on Friday. Permits for outdoor burning will not be issued to anyone on Saturday. The AFC plans to resume regular permit issuing on Sunday, March 29, provided improved weather conditions. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

In the last seven days, 147 wildfires have burned approximately 5,600 acres of forestland across the state. This includes a large wildfire in Wilcox County (963 acres), one for 464 acres in Montgomery County, one for 505 acres in Marengo, and four others over 200 acres in Choctaw, Covington, Etowah, and Walker counties.

The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets as well as its citizens. To report a wildfire, call (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, contact your local AFC office or visit the agency website.

Robertsdale Fire is deeply saddened by the passing of Tammy, a Baldwin County 911 dispatcher who faithfully served our department and this community for many years.

Tammy was often the first voice heard in moments of crisis and the steady presence behind the scenes that ensured our firefighters had the information and support needed to respond safely and effectively. Her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to public safety made a lasting impact on everyone who worked with her.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tammy’s family, friends, and her coworkers at Baldwin County 911 during this difficult time. She will always be remembered for her service and the difference she made in the lives of so many.

Rest easy. Your service mattered, and your impact will always be remembered.

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Eddie McDonald on successfully earning his Fire Department Safety Officer: Incident Safety Officer certification through the Alabama Fire College and the Personnel Standards and Education Commission.

This certification is awarded in accordance with NFPA 1521 and represents a significant commitment to firefighter safety, risk management, and operational accountability on the emergency scene. Incident Safety Officers play a critical role in identifying hazards, monitoring conditions, and ensuring our crews can operate as safely as possible while doing a very dangerous job.

Lt. McDonald’s dedication to continued professional development directly strengthens our department and enhances the safety of every firefighter and citizen we serve.

Great work, Eddie.

The volunteers of Robertsdale Fire Department have been busy over the past 24 hours responding to 9 calls, and 5 of those were brush fires.

This is a good reminder that any outdoor burning needs to be done with careful consideration. Please pay attention to wind conditions, how dry the ground and vegetation are, and how quickly fire can spread. What starts as a small, controlled burn can become a dangerous situation in minutes.

Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe. If conditions aren’t right, please wait for a safer day to burn. As always, if a fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately.

🔥 Structure Fire – Circle Drive 🔥

At 5:21 PM this evening, Robertsdale Fire, along with our automatic aid partners, was dispatched to a structure fire on Circle Drive. Crews arrived approximately five minutes later and found heavy fire showing from the front of the residence.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control; however, the home did sustain heavy damage. Primary and secondary searches were completed with no victims found, and one dog was successfully rescued. One occupant was transported to the hospital by Medstar EMS.

We would like to thank all of our automatic aid partners, Medstar EMS, Baldwin County 9-1-1, and the Robertsdale Police Department for their assistance and teamwork on this incident.

The Robertsdale Fire Department is looking for residential or commercial structures within the City of Robertsdale that are scheduled for demolition and would be available for firefighter training.

While live fire training is not permitted, these structures can be extremely valuable for hands-on training such as:
• Search and rescue techniques
• Ventilation practices
• Forcible entry
• Hose line advancement
• Ladder operations

Using acquired structures allows our firefighters to train in real-world environments, helping us better serve and protect our community.

If you own a property that is planned for demolition or know of one that may be available, please send us a direct message or contact the Robertsdale Fire Department for more information. All training would be coordinated in advance and conducted safely.

Thank you for supporting your local firefighters and helping us stay prepared!
