We would like to thank our mutual aid departments with the assistance on the multiple grass fires we had today. Thank you to Styx river, Loxley, Robertsdale, Elsanor, and Gateswood. We had our units spread thin today due to the fires. We got all under control with no major loss of property. Also thank you to Alabama Forestry. We would ask that you not burn without making sure that conditions are optimal for burning safely. The winds lately have been unpredictable and turn a simple burn in to an out of control fire quickly.

Around 1:15 today we were dispatched for a grass fire with Styx river automatic aid. While on the way to the scene firefighters were advised that more fire were being called in going east bound from the 53 mile marker to the 56 mile marker. Styx river arrived on scene first and found a large fire near exit 53 and started extinguishing it. Styx river then requested Gateswood fire to be dispatched. Rosinton units started extinguishing the fire east of the exit and requested that elsanor and robertsdale fire be dispatched to help as well. It was then discovered that we had more fires than we had crews able to fight and loxley and Summerdale fire were dispatched to help. We would like to thank all the departments and agencies that helped on the scene. We would also like to thank Baldwin 911 for having to listen to everything going on and checking on us throughout the event. We found that roughly 20 areas had caught fire of varying sizes. We estimate that roughly 5 acres burned in these fires.

We would like to please ask everyone remain home unless you absolutely need to be on the roadway today. Multiple agencies are working many wrecks due to the ice on the roadways and multiple roadways are shut down due to it as well. Again please remain home unless absolutely necessary to leave.
