Early this morning, just prior to 1 AM Station 26,47, Rescue 18, and WBEMS were dispatched for a reported tree through a house with an occupant trapped.
With the additional at hand, Chief 26 requested an additional rescued be sent a while which brought Leb Rescue 34. Upon arrival, Chief 26 reported a 100 to 200 foot tree completely through the second floor of the structure with a large amount of structure damage that could be seen from the exterior of the building. With that Chief 26 added Rescue 85 and collapse 95 due to the size and complexity of the rescue at hand. Once inside, it was confirmed that the crews had an entrapped patient on the second floor underneath the tree. With that assessment, Chief 26 requested squad 6899, which is the tower health critical care unit to respond to the scene due to the potential of severe injuries to assist the western berks ambulance crews on scene. Crews used rescue tools, cribbing, and a multitude of other tools in an attempt at stabilizing the tree to be able to free the Patient. During the Rescue operation multiple plans were devised and one of them brought a special request to Spitlers Towing for their heavy wrecker. Once on scene crews began to rig the tree for lifting while other rescue crews continued with the other plans. Crews from Leb R33 aling with Collapse 95 cribbed and shored up the basement the first floor and the second floor for additional safety due to the buildings integrity being compromised. After a little over two hours and exhaustive rescue efforts, the patient was extricated from the second floor and out to the awaiting Western Berks ambulance unit for transport.
We would like to thank our mutual aid partners for all their assistance with this very complex Technical rescue.
