As a cold front slowly moves across the area tonight and early Wednesday, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue ahead of it. Most of these should be east of I-55, and most numerous south of I-70. Once the front passes, we'll have a couple days of cooler weather. The next chance of widespread rain will be late Thursday night into Friday evening.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE - Tues 5/19 @ 0945

The most-likely area for severe weather has shrunk from earlier projections.

The main focus will be in areas NEAR & SOUTH of I-70 with a timing of 1pm-7pm.

Damaging winds remain the primary concern. However, isolated large hail and locally heavy rainfall (up to 2 in) are also possible.

Severe Weather Risk Level 2/5 Today

Isolated severe thunderstorms today ahead of an approaching cold front.

The greatest threat for severe storms will be Noon - 9pm south of I-72.

HAZARDS include…
🔺 WIND GUSTS over 60 mph
🔺 HAIL over 1 inch diameter
🔺 HEAVY RAINFALL with over 2 inches in spots
🔺 Potential for localized FLASH FLOODING

Severe Weather Risk Level 2 on Tues 5/19

Another round of severe thunderstorms is forecast for our area Tuesday afternoon into evening, rough timing 2p-8p.

Hazards will be damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or greater and large hail 1 inch diameter or larger. Isolated tornadoes are possible as well.

Stay weather alert this afternoon.

A line of strong thunderstorms will continue to shift eastward into southeast IL through mid-day, impacting areas south of I-70 for several hours into the afternoon. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, with isolated large hail to 1 inch diameter and localized damaging wind gusts over 60 mph possible. The tornado threat appears to have diminished as of 1120 am. Flash flooding concerns are increasing for areas along and south of I-70 as we head through the afternoon.

NWS Damage Assessments are still on going.

We have confirmed 5 EF1 tornadoes from the evening storms of April 27, 2026. These occurred across parts of Logan, De Witt Piatt, and Champaign counties.
