Today in day program, participants made no-bake pineapple pies! ๐Ÿฅง Each participant was in charge of a different step in the process, and by the end it all came together and was ready to chill in the fridge for an after-lunch dessert.

Cooking activities like this help brain injury survivors strengthen sequencing, following directions, problem-solving, fine motor skills, and social interaction while creating something enjoyable together. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Today we brought back a participant favorite, The Price is Right at The Hickok Center ๐Ÿ’ต ๐ŸŽฏ

We had lots of participants join in on the fun today, and the game brought lots of excitement, and friendly competition to the center. A huge shoutout to DSP Shamiya, who designed and created all of the incredible props for the game, and to DSPs Alex, Gavin, and Abby for helping run the show.

Games like this can help brain injury survivors strengthen cognitive skills such as memory, problem solving, attention, and decision making. Group activities also encourage social connection, confidence building, and teamwork while creating a fun and engaging environment for everyone involved.

Last week, participants headed out to volunteer with G.R.O.W.S. program where we learned more about farming, horticulture, planting techniques, and caring for growing spaces. Participants enjoyed getting hands-on experience and exploring skills that can now be brought back and used in our own garden here at the Hickok Center! ๐ŸŒฑ

Programs like this encourage problem solving, teamwork, and confidence building while also providing calming sensory experiences through nature and hands-on activity. Gardening and farming activities can support adults living with brain injuries by promoting cognitive engagement, physical movement, social connection, and a sense of accomplishment in a meaningful environment! We canโ€™t wait to be back!

Exciting newsโ€ฆ. thanks to all of your support, we have received the first addition to updating our fitness area!๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Through our Annual Appeal and our 2026 Brainwaves event, we had been fundraising for updated equipment in our fitness area. This new addition, the FitMi, is an FDA-listed rehab program that helps increase function after stroke, brain injury, and more.

We canโ€™t wait to see participants learn about and utilize this new rehabilitation device!

This past Friday the Hickok Center staff gathered for our quarterly full-day staff training. One of the most important protocols we review is fire safety which includes evacuation protocol, fire extinguisher use, and emergency response procedures.

Thanks to the Henrietta Fire Department
, all staff were able to practice using a fire extinguisher on a controlled flame and gain hands-on experience in a safe environment. Safety is a top priority at the Hickok Center and we are committed to making sure both staff and participants feel prepared, supported, and protected in the event of an emergency. We are so grateful to the Henrietta Fire Department for taking the time to provide this important training to our team!
