🚔 TEAM RPD: DO & DON’T-CALLING THE POLICE
Sometimes you should absolutely call us.
Sometimes… there’s probably someone else better suited for the job.
✅ DO CALL US WHEN:
There’s an emergency or someone is in danger.
Someone is trying to break into your house.
You see an impaired or dangerously reckless driver.
You witness a crime or genuinely suspicious activity.
You reasonably believe someone needs immediate police assistance.
❌ PLEASE DON’T CALL US BECAUSE:
Your neighbor’s leaves blew onto your lawn.
Someone took “your” parking spot at Season’s.
COA gave you white toast but you wanted wheat!
Your Wi-Fi stopped working.
A wild turkey is standing in your yard looking at you disrespectfully.
Your neighbor put their trash barrels out earlier than you think they should.
You think a construction/work site might not have the proper permits so you call the police over seven times in one week! That’s generally a matter for the appropriate Town permitting/building department, not an emergency police response.
You saw something on Facebook and immediately determined:
“I’M PRETTY SURE THAT’S ILLEGAL!”
TEAM RPD RULE OF THUMB:
Immediate emergency or danger? → CALL 911.
Legitimate police matter, but not an emergency? → Call our non-emergency line.
Permit question? → Call Town Hall.
Neighbor’s leaves? → Grab a rake.
Not everything that annoys you requires a cruiser.
And as always…
Make good choices. Be a good neighbor. And NO DAFO.
