As we have come to the end of summer, we would like to reflect on the journey we've taken together as a unit. This year has been filled with challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments that have not only strengthened our skills but also solidified our bond as a unit.

Our unit has truly come together, and we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible accomplishments we've achieved as a team.
Some of our standout moments: welcoming to our new First Sergeant, David Federico. We are thrilled to have you join our ranks and lead us in the exciting times ahead. The amazing concerts we performed during our Annual Training, where we not only showcased our musical talent but also the spirit of teamwork and dedication that defines us. The energy in the air was electric and seeing our hard work pay off in front of a cheering audience was a reminder of why we do what we do. During this time some of the Soldiers took the Army Fitness Test, showing the readiness and ability of the unit.

Here's to new beginnings, shared successes, and the joy of making music together!

For more than two decades, Soldiers, families, and Army Civilians have stood together in service to our nation, showing unwavering resilience, strength, and commitment.

America’s U.S. Army remains the strength of our nation.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to SPC Powers, the newest member of the 198th Army Band!

Hailing from Ogdensburg, NY, military service has always been something SPC Powers has considered. Joining the Army Band gives him the perfect opportunity to combine his passion for music with his desire to serve. His love for performing and staying active made this a natural next step.

SPC Powers is especially excited to perform with our Ceremonial Band and Jazz Ensemble, Genesee Jazz. His musical tastes span country, classic rock, and blues, and you'll often see (and hear!) him on the saxophone, piano, or microphone— yes, he sings too!

Be sure to look out for SPC Powers in future performances; he's a talented addition we're proud to have on board!

For the past nine months, two soldiers from the 198th have answered the call of duty, donating over 800 hours of service and supporting more than 200 funeral honors ceremonies in coordination with the New York National Guard Military Funeral Honors Program. Their mission: to render final honors to our nation’s fallen, including the live performance of Taps.

Taps was officially recognized by the U.S. Army in 1874. By 1891, it became the standard bugle call at military funerals and was later designated in 2013 as the “National Song of Military Remembrance.” Alongside the playing of Taps, the honor detail also folds and presents the American flag to the next of kin—a tradition of deep respect and solemn dignity.

A heartfelt thank you to SFC Kovach and SFC Pytlak for generously volunteering their time to this sacred duty. Their commitment has earned recognition from the American Legion and stands as a powerful testament to the impact our soldiers continue to make in the community.
