DYK only 12 states and DC require HIV education to be medically accurate?

Instead of discriminatory laws rooted in ignorance, young people impacted by and living with HIV deserve:

βœ… to live free from oppression
βœ… the right to inclusive and honest education
βœ… the right to quality and accessible treatment and care
βœ… the right to live without criminalization and stigma

April 10th is National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day πŸ“’

This is a day to urge policymakers and the public to take action regarding the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people and highlight the HIV prevention, treatment, and care campaigns of young people in the US.

Did you know...
πŸ”Ί Young people aged 13-24 accounted for 20% of all new HIV diagnoses in the US in 2020
πŸ”Ί Only 6% of high school students were ever tested for HIV in 2021
πŸ”Ί Many existing HIV services in the USA do not meet the needs of at-risk adolescents and young adults

Make sure to follow Advocates for Youth to stay up to date and get involved!

If you would like to be tested or learn about youth s*xual health, visit us at 33 Chestnut Street. All are welcome!

πŸ“’ The CDC reports that nearly half of young people living with HIV are unaware of their status.

National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) matters more than ever this year. Funding is being cut for HIV prevention, research, and programs that are supposed to support young people. That means fewer resources, fewer services, and more barriers to getting what you need to stay safe, healthy, and informed. Funding cuts are hitting hardest at programs that focus on q***r youth, youth of color, and youth who are already most impacted.

This year, NYHAAD is a call to action. It's a chance to speak up, organize and remind the world that young people are NOT disposable. Youth deserve access, care, and the power to shape the future of the HIV response.

Follow Advocates for Youth to learn more and get involved! If you want to get involved locally, reach out to us at 585-262-4330 or stop by 33 Chestnut St.

Trans joy can’t be erased πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

So while legislators try to block visibility by erasing trans students from classrooms, they cannot erase an entire community and the bravery of trans people continuing to live as their authentic selves, even if it’s only in the moments when it’s safe to do so.

πŸŽ™οΈπŸŽ™οΈMarch 31st is International Transgender Day of Visibility. It is a moment to honor the lives, leadership, and resilience of our trans community, while also naming the legal and systemic barriers that continue to place the community at risk. Visibility must be paired with protection, access, and justice. The Trans community’s health and well-being needs are urgent and multifaceted. HIV funding and the resources we have fought for decades are under attack across the country. Visibility should not only mean being seen; it should mean being protected, affirmed, and supported through policy, community care, and meaningful action.
