We’re excited to welcome Alicia Pearson as a new member of the United Way of Southeast Minnesota Board of Directors. With experience in both public service and clinical research, Alicia brings a thoughtful, community-centered perspective to the board and a strong commitment to improving outcomes for rural and underserved communities.

As Mayor of Lanesboro, MN, and a Clinical Trial Manager at Evidation Health, Alicia understands the importance of connection — between systems, services, and people. Her leadership experience, grassroots involvement, and passion for measurable impact will be a valuable asset as we work together to strengthen our region.

Today, June 5, is Grace Pesch’s last day with United Way of Southeast Minnesota after more than 7 wonderful years. As our Vice President of Community Impact, Grace has brought so much heart, leadership, and care to this work, and as she begins her next adventure, we’re sending so much love and gratitude her way. 💙

Leonnel has spent more than 30 years showing up for her community, cooking meals for neighbors, giving rides to appointments, and caring for her family. Today, she’s raising her two grandsons while working full-time as a personal care assistant, yet still living paycheck to paycheck.

She’s not alone. In Olmsted County, 25% of households live under the ALICE threshold — earning too much to qualify for government aid, but not enough to afford the basics.

More than 1 in 3 households in Southeast Minnesota are struggling to make ends meet.

Many of these are ALICE households—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—working hard but still living paycheck to paycheck and one unexpected expense away from crisis. United Way's Southeast Minnesota Financial Snapshot helps tell that story and why financial stability matters for our whole community.

Carmen is a dedicated consultant and program manager with extensive experience in nonprofit, community health, and small business settings. She has led grant-funded initiatives serving Latino and underserved populations and now leads regional efforts to expand access to evidence-based mental health support through the PEARLS program.
