The Monroe County Democratic Committee strongly condemns the Webster Town Board’s abrupt removal of the Pride flag. Rushed through without proper public notice, this resolution completely bypassed the community it was meant to serve, actively dismissing the voices of the very residents they were elected to represent.
We applaud and thank Town Supervisor Alex Scialdone and Deputy Supervisor Nick Hunter for their principled leadership. In voting against this decision, they proudly stood on the right side of history.
The Pride flag and the American flag are not mutually exclusive. There are values that are not up for debate, and the dignity and existence of our LGBTQ+ neighbors is one of them. As Democrats, we do not simply tolerate our LGBTQ+ community. We celebrate them, proudly and without qualification. We stand resolutely with Webster’s LGBTQ+ residents and will fight to restore the values of respect, dignity, unity, and true community inclusion.
A Pride flag was removed from Webster Town Hall days after it was raised, following a 3-2 town board vote that was not listed on the meeting agenda. See link below ⬇️
