Tonight the Rochester Township Board of Commissioners voted to join the newly formed Beaver Valley Regional Police Department. Starting this weekend, you will start to see the patrol cars of the Regional Police patrolling through the streets of the Township and on some shifts they will be answering calls due to staffing shortages. The official start date is set for September first.

This will be a very good thing for the community and the department. This will broaden the coverage and services provided to the Township. There will be multiple officers on duty at one time and this will greatly increase officer safety. The officers of the Rochester Township Police will be integrated into the current staff of the Regional department and you will still continue to see them in town. The current proposal will have a former township officer of each shift to help those officers learn the Township as well help us learn the other towns.

This was not a hastily thrown together plan. This is a thought out decision that will benefit the community immediately. The Beaver Valley Regional Department is showing great trends forward and the communities of Baden, Conway and Freedom are benefiting immensely from this already. We are all excited about the future of this department and where it is going.

I have been here for over twenty years and have proudly served this community and will continue to serve it, but only with a different patch on my shirt. Any questions can be directed to the Rochester Township Office, but the best way would be to go to the Township meetings.

Thank you for letting me serve this community for years to come,

Sergeant Richard Lockhart

We were invited to participate in the Rochester Area Middle School Great Race. We have done this for several years and enjoy the interaction with young teens and getting to show the effect of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Sergeant Lockhart and Officer Piccinini always enjoy time with the students. Thank you, Mrs. Ford, for the invitation and thank you to the New Sewickley Police Department for loaning us the equipment. We can't wait unti next year.

So August 31st was the end of an era. Chief George Yaccich retired after 25 years as an officer and the last 21 plus as the Chief of Police here in Rochester Township. We wish him well in the next chapter of his life as he enjoys retirement. Thank you and your family for your service to the Township of Rochester. You have made this department something to be very proud of and have garnered the respect of the county and beyond. Good luck and enjoy your much deserved retirement.
